Please go to this Canon link (click here) and enter the term "ink cartridge replacement" in the search window for a set of detailed instructions (with pictures) on how to replace your ink cartridges.
As you face the printer, with the scan cover open,in position to remove them, the black cartridge goes on your left and the color on the right.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

SOURCE: how to change ink cartridge in canon mp390

With the machine powered on. Just lift up on the entire top portion on the platen unit, lower the front verticle cover and the printhead should come to the correct position to change out the ink tanks, just tilt tanks towards the front of the unit and lift out.

SOURCE: i changed ink my printer showing wrong cartridge

Make sure you are using factory new Canon ink cartridges.

If you purchased re-filled cartridges or third party cartridges that is most likely your problem.

SOURCE: Canon MP980 prints horizontal pink lines across

try to change the color ink. horizontal banding (the pink or other color lines appearing means horizontal banding) when there is a problem on one of the heating element of the printer head. since almost all canon printers have head built in the inks, replacing the faulty ink will solve the problem. if not then the controller of printhead on the carriage and mainboard needs to be checked.

Locating the position of the ink absorber on canon mp980

Unplug the printer so that the cartridges will remain in their position. 2 Locate the waste ink absorbers in their black rubber frame. They will likely be on the right side of your printer, and will be located underneath the area where the ink cartridges rest when the printer is in standby mode

How to change ink cardrig

Usually the top section of the printer can be opened. Lift it up while turned on. The cartridges should automatically move to a central position for easy access. The cartridges have a little plastic arm on the front of them. Press this and pull cartridge upwards. Each cartridge has a specific number on it so make sure you buy the one suited to your printer.

Canon mp 980 won't even copy or scan if any ink runs out. Is there any way to change that?

Sorry, but no. As far as I know that's how all of these all-in-ones work. If the printer doesn't work because the cartridges run dry, nothing else works either. They don't allow you to use the scanner as a standalone piece.

My canon printer shows error 6500 and I replaced the ink cartridges and still won't reset

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

My printer is out of grayscale ink. It will not let me print and none of the controls function. I cannot find grayscale ink - it is not included in the replacement ink kit!!! Please help

bukes1 is actually right. I have the same printer and I'm having the same problem. The MP980 has a black, pixel black, cyan, magenta, yellow, and a grey cartridge, so 6 all together. The grey replacement cartridge is not readily available at a store. You have to purchase it online. I don't understand why Canon does not include it in the color multi-pack. It's quite a nuisance, because when the cartridge runs out you can't print at all.

Printer will not print in black from either black cartridge. Cleaning and deep cleaning have not helped. Both cartridges are more than half full.

If it has been a while since using the printer, it's possible that ink on the surface of the ink outlet has dried and clogged the cartridge. Try dabbing the outlet with a dry paper towel to see if it can draw some ink out then print a test page.

I think i inserted the print head wrong in my canon pixma mp980 printer, how do i remove it? seems that I have the same problem. print head snapped into place but does not appear to be the right place as...

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
