Scanner Powers up - does not intiate, cannot be accessed by PC
When I start up my scanner, it no longer is communicating with my PC. The PC recognizes that it is there and on but when the software tries to access the scanner, it states there is no communication. I also seem to remember when I started the scanner it would move the scanner light across the device and then wait. It is turning on the light but not moving the light across the unit.

Power everything down, computer and scanner. Make sure your scanner is connected to the AC wall outlet, and to the pc. Then turn on your computer. Reinstall the driver and software by following this link
And download the latest update (2007) and you should be good to go

Not a solution, but a confirmation. My Canoscan Lide 60 is no longer recognized by the system. It seems as though it does not power up. It gets its power from the USB interface. There is no "on" switch. Are there diagnostic tools available?
The first thing to try: a new USB cable and a different port. (If you are using a hub, try directly connecting to the computer). What does the device manager say about the scanner? (In Windows, access from the Control Panel > Hardware. Exact directions depend on the OS version.)
Check the transport lock on the bottom of the scanner - do not put the scanner on its side when you check the lock.
Make sure the scanner was on and had already warmed up (stopped blinking) before you tried to start the scanner software (either by the buttons or from the scanner). You may want to reboot the computer (in case the computer thinks one program has locked access to the scanner).
I hope this helps.
Cindy Wells (scanners require two-way communication with the computer and a bad cable will stop the scan even when the computer sees the scanner and the software installed without a problem.)
After disconnecting and later reconnecting the scanner no longer worked. The lamp started flashing 6 times with pause. The scanner was no longer recognised by the computer. I fixed it by disconnecting the usb and current plugs, and reconnecting the current plug while pushing the first en third buttons from the left on the front of the scanner.
