Question about Olympus Cameras

1 Answer

I have had an Olypus C-5050 for a couple years and it has been so important to me that at times I have been known to take it to bed with me (that is camping just in case it rains...or if its too cold..) anyway..I really USED this camera...I loved it with such passion as I do most Olympus's that I have had (I am 70 years old and an obsessed photographer here in Halifax, Nova the name is AnitaLouise Martinez..Phone 423 0703 area code 902...anyway as I have mentioned...I take REAL good care of my camera..but while shooting (this was my first Horrible moment with my camera) One of the straps broke..when I looked into fixing it and as I carry the camera all the had pulled away from the camera and totally could not be fixed...I attempted to carry with one strap but eventually that broke now I carried the camera with even more gentle care for fear of dropping it..but still carried it all the time..anyway..while putting a disk in the camera one evening on a photo shoot..the camera totally stopped working..I suspected that it was just that I had run out of battery..until I tried some fresh ones...Nothing!..I tried another set and another disk..NOTHING...I then took it desperately to the only good camera shop in this town..he examined it and determined that the total camera had shorted out...I did buy another camera..from him a Stylus 1030 SW..and its okay and kinda safe and all...I also have another stylis 700 alweather..which I use quite a bit in spite of the screen being cracked and I cannot see what I am taking photos of till I download.. but they usually are quite you can see..I LOVE Olympus and usually many people after speaking with me..will acquire an Olympus...but most of all I am concerned about this (my baby)..the C want to know if there is anyway in this wide world that it can be fixed for less than it is worth...HELP...PLEASE...thanks Anita

AnitaLouise, I can fix your camera. I have a C5050 that may not be worth fixing, but I may be able to get a working one between them both. Please E-mail me pishta68 at and we can work something out. I too believe that the C5050 was one of the greatest 5MP digital cameras ever made, with lens quality that is unmatched even today.

My camera baral could not open. What is problem in camera

Hi, A couple years ago I the solution below online but first as you probably know, your camer barrel is sensitive to even the tiniest bit of grit, so it will stick, stay closed. What worked for me was turning on the camera while laying down on my bed pointing the camera at the ceiling. Something about the blank, close space, works to get the barrel to open. You may have to try it a few times. Each time it will open a bit more, until whatever grit was in it is worked out.
Let me know if it works. Good luck!

Kodak dx6490 Powers up and shuts itself off.Battery is charged!

Hello, Sounds like you may have a battery problem. The DX6490 battery loses it's capacity over time, If the battery is a couple years old they are known to fail. May not be any problem with camera, try a new battery and let it charge completely before installing it.

Hi Annie....I just found this Repair Advisory from Olympus, and it sounds exactly like what's happening with your camera (same as mine).... Hopefully your camera is within the 4 year free repair period for this defect -- sadly, mine was not.... Best wishes & blessings! Michelle

Card error even with no card inserted

I've had the same problem. No pins are bent and I bought the new cards as well. Write protection is off. Hmm... Olypus wants $190.00 for a flat rate repair at one of their facilities.

Had 1.5 years of good use out of the camera. Do I do the repair or buy the 510?

Mode Dial broken

Mode dial repair kits are often listed on eBay. Don't try the repair yourself unless you have some experience in dismantling (and more importantly re-assembling!) modern cameras - although given that getting an "official" repair is not economic it may be worth the risk. There are instructions for replacing the dial here It's really not that difficult but patience and good eyesight are needed.

You made the same big mistake I made, we bought an Olympus Digital Camera! I have the same problem with my Olympus C-5050, it's the CCD sensor. Will cost you more than $200, and if your camera is over a year, you pay.
