WS-55511 55in volume turns up by itself & can't switch devices

My mitsubishi WS-55511 55 inch will turn the volume up by itself and you can't make it stop by the remote or tv directly. You have to turn the tv off and then back on, but it will do it again without touching any buttons. It also won't let me switch to a different device, only stays on cable. Then lost complete remote control function, put in new batteries and still didn't work. Picture is still excellent, nothing else seems to be effected.

the volume display is stuck on the tv, and I cannot make it go off, I also cannot turn the volume up or down, through the remote or on the tv.

The remote is not the problem. The switch for volume up on the control panel has become leaky. Very common problem for this generation Mitsubishi. If you don't mind not having the control panel working you can disconnect it and the set will work just fine with the remote. To disconnect the control panel pull the speaker grill, it just snaps off, and remove the front access panel. Once that is done you'll see a cable going to the switches just disconnect it.

Thanks! I never use the switches on the tv, so I'm sure this is the answer for me.

To be sure that your remote has failed, look for a TV shop in your area and ask if they have an IR (infrared) tester; these are primitive devices but they will tell you if the remote is putting out some kind of signal.
If you find it is bad, you can buy an original replacement here:

Mitsubishi big screet HDTV after being on for a minute, the scree pops and goes black with some red lines, then the volume turns all the way up by itself.

Do the self check----if set has been unplugged plug it in and turn on for it to fail----when it shuts off ON THE FRONT OF THE SET press and hold both the menu and input (device) buttons at same time for at least 5 seconds and release both.

Power light will blink a two digit error code like, 1 blink, 2 blinks and pause and repeat it for a total of 5 times.

What if any error code do you find?

I had this same problem, make sure that the TV is not plugged into a power strip. Also check to see that the sleep timer is not turned on.
Good luck.

WS-5551 only on/off button works, won't respond to remote at all

take off the speaker grill, you will see 2 wire plugs, turn the tv on, disconnect both plugs, if it now works with the remote then you need to replace all of the front switches, or leave them unplugged and use the remote, if this doesn't work, you have a bad dm board or signal module which could get very expensive.

No volume

Have you checked to make sure that your speakers are turned on? Most rear projection televisions have both a physical switch and an interal menu option to turn on and off the built in speakers. The physical switch usually is located in the back near the inputs and outputs. It could have accidentally switched off. Under the menu options it may have been accidentally turned off as well.
