Keyboard inop

Hello there and welcome to FIXYA
Whenever a keyboard is inoperative or is not working properly 1 of several things usually have happened .
First is the settings in bios have changed due to a cmos batttery on the board being low this causes the settings to go to default
and the next thing is that something got spilled on the keyboard and shorted out the electronics on the board itself thus leaving the keyboard useless
So what i would do first is to try the keyboard in a different computer and see if that computer will recognize it if so then you know that there is a problem in the other computer but if not then it is safe to say that the keyboard may be shot due to things like being dropped or getting wet et ect now if it is a wireless keyboard then you will want to try to remove the usb from the computer and reinstalling it in a different port and see if the computer says any thing about a new device found if so then it means that the device has been found and the drivers will need to be installed this may take some tome to see if the drives do get installed if not then you know what the problem is ok
So please do these things that i have mentioned and PLEASE keep informed on how this is going there is still a lot that we can do but i need you to do the basic things first ok
Best regards Mike

I have a Gateway keyboard. The email key - F2 - does not activate email. Further, the keys which control the sound of external speakers [switch on/off; increase or decrease volumn] do not work. I can't...

Most of the time, these specialized keyboards come software utilities that need to be downloaded into your computer to make these specialized keys work correctly. If you do not have a software disk. Check www.gateway.com and look for their support page, search for you keyboard device model and look for downloads and drivers for that keyboard.

If this keyboard came with a new computer, look for a keyboard utility in your program list.

If you found this answer helpful, please remember to leave positive feedback.

Thank You,

Brian

My computer keeps saying it cant find my 4GB

Does the device work in *ANY* USB port on your computer?

Do other USB devices (mouse, keyboard, printer) work in the USB port that you are trying to use?

Does the device work in any *OTHER* computer (laptop/desktop) ?

Part of keyboard does not work.

Windows only recognizes the standard keys on a keyboard. Special-function keys need to have appropriate driver software installed to make them work. If you bought this keyboard as a replacement, there should be a CD included with the required drivers. If this is the keyboard that came with a retail computer system, the drivers would already have been installed.

Most manufacturers include a directory somewhere on the hard drive with any special drivers so you can reinstall them if needed. Or you may have gotten one or more CDs with your system, and the drivers will be on those. You can also find the drivers at the manufacturer's website in their "support" or "download" section. This is usually the best way to get the drivers anyway, since you will get the most recent versions with any updates. Installing the drivers once you have them is normally a simple matter of running the installation program.

Keyboard not working

To connect the keyboard or mouse to the computer, you must connect the wireless device through the USB port and get it to hold a good connection. You do not have to install any devices to use these products, they automatically work when you plug them in. When it says that the device is recognized, you are ready to use it! If you have a desktop, you can also plug the wireless device to the mouse port. The keyboard and mouse work properly up to 5' away from the connected wireless device. If you can get the wireless device to work properly, you should have no troubles with the product.

Problem with Bluetooth And Special button on top & Right (around keyboard)

  • Remove and then reinstall the device:
    1. Click the Start button , click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Bluetooth Devices.
    2. Select the device that's not working, and then click Remove.
    3. Click Add, press the reset button on the device (or make it discoverable following the manufacturer's instructions), select the My device is set up and ready to be found check box, and then click Next.
    4. If the device is not found, repeat the previous step. When the device is found, select it, and then click Next.
    5. Follow the rest of the instructions in the wizard.

    Keyboard

Usually computer keyboards are not locked. The problem which you're facing it due to the non-recognition of the keyboard by your computer. You should shut down your computer, switched off the power supply then remove the keyboard connectors and plug them again. Then you should on your computer and your problem will be solved.
If you'd still face problem then go to My Computer>Control Panel>Keyboard>Hardware settings> Troubleshoot. And your problem will be solved.

    or

Remove any special drivers for your keyboard/mouse (if you have any drivers other than the normal windows drivers), then remove keyboard and mouse from the device manager.

Reboot the machine and let windows refind them and install the default mice/keyboard drivers. Don't mess with any other fancy drivers to support extra mouse buttons or anything until you know you are working at this "basic" level.

Leave it like this for a few days to see if it works ok. If this works, then my guess is its a driver problem....be very careful if you install additional drivers. If it still does not work ok, since you say you've tried the keyboard on other computers, then I might suspect the ps2 port has gone south. That would be bad, because that would require a motherboard RMA/change.

    Cannot install the device

With regards to this issue, I would suggest you to download windows update since samsung MTP devices are generic driver loaded by microsoft. Then after you have downloaded the windows update press and hold the play button of your device while you are connecting it to your computer, if this is successful a Found new hardware message will pop up on your screen then just follow the on screen instruction on how to install your device. Hope this helps. PEACE!
