Keyboard inop

Hello there and welcome to FIXYA
Whenever a keyboard is inoperative or is not working properly 1 of several things usually have happened .
First is the settings in bios have changed due to a cmos batttery on the board being low this causes the settings to go to default
and the next thing is that something got spilled on the keyboard and shorted out the electronics on the board itself thus leaving the keyboard useless
So what i would do first is to try the keyboard in a different computer and see if that computer will recognize it if so then you know that there is a problem in the other computer but if not then it is safe to say that the keyboard may be shot due to things like being dropped or getting wet et ect now if it is a wireless keyboard then you will want to try to remove the usb from the computer and reinstalling it in a different port and see if the computer says any thing about a new device found if so then it means that the device has been found and the drivers will need to be installed this may take some tome to see if the drives do get installed if not then you know what the problem is ok
So please do these things that i have mentioned and PLEASE keep informed on how this is going there is still a lot that we can do but i need you to do the basic things first ok
Best regards Mike

Mouse works, keyboard won't..plugged in another mouse, it works, keyboard do I tell if it's the keyboard or the tower? Husband says its the tower.

try to plug the keyboard in another computer. If it is analog the lights dont come on the keyboard (caps lock, NUM lock, ect.) it is the tower if the lights do not turn on, it is the keyboard. If your keyboard is USB then try to use it on another computer if it doesnt work it is the keyboard, but if so I would make sure any software the keyboard came with is installed and try it agian.

Casio WK 200 keyboard, USB doesn't work

You may need to install the drivers to give the computer to fully recognize the keyboard. The computer may see the keyboard, but isn't recogning it fully due to the lack of drivers.

Dell opti plex 755 ..its a company's computer and they have installed windows from another shop so now it boots well opens windows but the mouse and keyboard does'nt work it says found new hardware how can...

Windows usually supplies the needed drivers during the original installation of windows and should have enabled both devices. You may have to do a new install of Windows to fix.

When i turn on my computer, it goes directly to a black screen and it says, "Internal hardisk drive not found..." and i do not know the rest.

Before you encountered the problem,. have you installed any hardware/software? you need to make it sure that there is no other devices connected to the computer like any USB external devices. If so, disconnect them and try rebooting your computer. If still doesn't work, try to check your hard drive in the BIOS or you may need to reseat it.

Let me know what type of system you have.

Keep me posted.

THe keyboard has gone beserk... the up and down keys keep pressinf themselves.. also sometimes some keys just stop working... please help

your problem may have different causes:

1. if your keyboard is old, you may want to spend either money, on a new keyboard, or time, cleaning your keyboard as you may have some kung underneith causing the keys to stick.

2. do try another key board and see if that corrects the issue (get rid of the current problem keyboard). try the keyboard on another computer and see it works fine. if it does your problem may be with the connector on the motherboard, you may have to get usb keyboard or you may have to replaced your motherboard.

3. if your keyboard is a special new keyboard you may have to look for updated drivers for it instead of using the drivers that come with the operating system.. look into the keyboard manufacturer's website for updated drivers..

4. go to control pannel> keyboards and look into the hardware tab and look for properties, make sure the status of the device is "working properly" if not reinstall or updated drivers.

5. check your possible bios updates: if your keyboard is a ps/2 (mini 6 pin din). look for for updates for your bios on motherboard manufacturer website.

post more details of your device and issues and we'll try to help.

I cannot find a driver for my keyboard chicony kb-9805

ok i believe i can help u with this click start go to my computer and right click on it at the bottom where it says properties click on it then you will be brought to the system properties section look over the options and you will see hardware and click on it look for device manager and open it up .
now look down the list untill you see keyboards and click on the plus sign and you will see your keyboard listed now rightclick on your keyboard and look for the update driver than click on it if nothing is found than you need to go back to where it says update driver and open it up and under the section that says automatically install there is a section that says install from specific location click on next at the next page you will see a search and install options make sure the checkmark on the first box is not checked than at the bottom where it says dont search click on that then you will be brought to the next page with a list of keyboards you will see a checkmark on a box unclick it and a list of hardware will come up just find your manufacture of yor keyboard and click on it and it will show you the different keyboards once you find yours click on it and it will install the drivers for it ok im verry sorry it looks like a lot of things to do but it is realy not that hard

Downloading Programs with the new Windows Vista

You need a special version for Vista if it's not what you tried to install already. It can be found here:

Vista also pops up annoying prompts to confirm every system change, which may cause problems. This is caused by User Access Control, and I can walk you through temporarily disabling it if you can't get the above version installed straight away.
