I would like to fix this myself

F24 error code a water temperature sensor error or enought hot water to the washer.
check to see you have both valves are turned on. Also, the water inlet valve on the washer has a screen and it is known to get clogged and restrict water flow. Turn off the hot water valve. Pull the hot water hose off where it attaches to the back of the washer.
Even if you are getting good hot water flow, inadequate water temperature can cause an F24 error code. Check the temperature setting on your hot water heater. It should be set at 120 F. You should reach this hot water temperature at your washer within about 1 minute.
If you are getting a good hot water flow, you may one of the following failures:
1 loose or dirty connection at the temperature sensor or control board.
2 The temperature sensor could be out of range. Bad or shorted sensor
3 Control board failure.
The temperature sensor should have a resistance reading of 6.6k ohms at 104 degrees F and should drop in Ohms as temperature rises,
The temperature sensor is located at the back lower section of the tub with 2 small black wires. It would require a ohm meter to measure the resistance of the sensor. .

just an FYI to anyone who might need to know. my neptune started kicking up an error of LR and stopping. i ended up sending an email to maytag and got a response back from one of their techs. the LR code means "Locked Rotor". when this happens the cause is one of two items. 1) the circuit board at the top of the unit has lost connection to the motor and its control board at the bottom (connector loose) or 2) the motor and or control board at the bottom have trashed and need to be replaced (P/N 12002039).
hope the info helps someone as i had a heck of a time finding it.

take the back panel off,see if the belt has broke if not, check your motor control board for burn spots ,front bottom right inside washer,if not that then your motor has gotten weak and will not turn the drum, let me knoe what you find-mike

This solution applys to many Maytag washing machines. Perhaps not all.
Maytags have three damper pads in the bottom of the machine that must be lubricated from time to time. If they are not, they can be ripped off. They are glued to the bottom of the machine, the drum rests on top of them. When they become dry or lost, the machine shakes violently and no amount
of leveling or load balancing will fix it. Replace and/or lubricate the pads and magically it works again.
This is not a difficult repair for those that have modest mechanical skills and a few basic tools.
replacement pads and lube come in an inexpensive kit.n
I will create a web page with instructions if there is interest.

F24 indicates a water temperature sensor error. If during the wash cycle in the water-heating step, the water temperature sensor (NTC) value is out of range the F24 error code will display.
