Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

GIGABYTE TV card does not function on my Dell Inspiron 1501

I recently purchased a GIGABYTE digital TV dongle U7000 USB 2.0 in Australia. I was assured that it would work anywhere in the world. When I tried to install it on my Dell Inspiron 1501, at home in Ireland, it seemed only to part install. I am able to access the PowerCinema page but I get message saying that there is no TV tuner card loaded. I am wondering does my notebook require some additional piece of software.

I would be very grateful for any asistance.

Many thanks,

Tommy McGurrell,

As suggested , I downloaded the file from the link provided. However when I try to install it I get a message " Installshield Wizard completed.....the Wizard was interrupted before the Gigabyte U7000 TV card could be completely installed" I have tried this a few times with the same result.

The TV card in question is a Gigabyte U7000 USB 2.0 which was bought specificallyfor a laptop!

  • tommymcgurre Dec 30, 2008

As suggested, I uninstalled the software and tried again to install it using the CD provided with the Gigabyte Dongle. I get a message "Unknown hardware" and can only install "TV player"; I cannot install either "TV card" driver or "Remote control" driver. I had previously uninstalled and attempted to download the drivers from the link provided by your expert; but I ended up with an "Install wizard " problem as previously described.

I feel trustrated at the moment because I posted a comment in relation to a suggested solution on 30 December and today 3 Jan, yet the reply to my comments was exactly the same, and both dated 28 Dec ???

Also remember to unplug the USB TV card before reinstalling the driver software.

Plug back the card only after installing drivers, or when prompted by setup wizard.

Because Ireland has different broadcast system standard called SECAM. In Australia if you purchased it where they use PAL, so TV card was adopted for reception of TV broadcast in PAL. Without standards conversion, it is impossible to view a video/TV program without first converting them to appropriate standard.
More information you might get here
http://www.high-techproductions.com/pal,ntsc.htm
Most probably you need to get PAL-SECAM converter for instance here.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, two ideas to consider:

  • prior to installing the driver/software, temporarily disable the laptop's antivirus and/or firewall;
  • connect only the USB Tuner when instructed by the installation program or after a reboot;
  • it may be necessary to update or even rollback the laptop's drivers for the USB root hub.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

If your card is running the american tv version it is called NTSC
The european and your country as england uses PAL,they are not interchangable, unless it specifically says it will plat both PAL,and NTSC, so if it wasn't compatable to both signale then you are out of luck, also search your hard drive for fragments that are not allowing a reinstall and reboot prior to re installing, it sounds like it's incompatable to me andyou got one of those salesmen who just lie to make the sale of just yes you to death, Gym

try shutting your virus and spyware off and disconnect from the internet while doing the install, then if you still can't get it in, try in safe mode, by taping the F8 key while rebooting, prior to the set booting up

TV tuner card is not a software. Its another piece of hardware. There are two types of TV tuner card. One is USB type and the other one is a PCI type. You need to have a USB type tv tuner card since you are using a laptop.

How do I setup wireless N technology on Dell Inspiron 560 Intel Core 2 Duo

Try following the instructions in the quick start guide. That is what it is for after all. The card goes inside the case, look on the back and see if there is anywhere to fit the antenna. If there isn't you will need to buy a wireless card(it doesn't have to be Dell or even a card- a USB wireless dongle will do the same job and is easier to fit and set up.

Does my 1550 have blue tooth

Here's a rundown of what you don't get in the Inspiron 1501 that comes standard with the Inspiron 1505, I am assuming yo did a typo with the 1550
  • No dedicated media buttons on the front
  • No Dell Media Direct software feature
  • No FireWire port
  • No S-Video port
  • 3-in-1 card reader instead of 5-in-1
  • No internal Bluetooth option
But if yours is the 1501 then just buy a $7 blue tooth doogle that slots into your usb then your bluetooth problem is solved.

Is there a software that you can download to make your computer have bluetooth

You need to have the appropriate hardware in order to use bluetooth. You cannot download the software and assume it will work.

Dell Inspiron 1501 key stuck but not.

The most valuable test you can perform now is to buy or borrow a usb keyboard. If the problem persists with the external keyboard then it is reasonable to conclude that the problem is software based. If the problem disappears then, if the unit is still under warranty send it in ASAP.
I have experienced 2 notebook keyboard hardware failures over the past 5 years. If you are outside of warranty, you may choose to use a usb keyboard as more more cost effective solution.
If the problem is software based, have you attempted to reinstall your software in a stepwise manner checking for the problems recreatability?

Connecting Dell Inspiron 1501 to TV, Windows Vista

The PC card you have doesnt appear to work with that adaptor. Dell Has its own Svideo / Video output adaptors.

You need a converter not an adaptor. Try looking on Amazon for this: ITV-900 PC to TV Converter

Laptop can't find Bluetooth software for dongle

gougher01,
Thanks for following up with me. It's taken a while, but after 10 mins of searching in the usual XP 'Trying to locate software' from the internet, it has found and installed the necessary drivers and the dongle indicates its ready for use. Have yet to test it. Key msg for outers is to give the net search time as nothing happens for at least 10 mins of the search, so you can be tempted to give up, as I did on first attempt. Thanks. Trevor (Bluetooth dongle has 'Bluetooth' as its TM, otherwise I' not clear as to manufacturer as no docs came with it.)

Enable my dell inspiron 1501 bluetooth

I looked over the system configurations for the Inspiron 1501, and it doesn't have Bluetooth capabilities built into it. The 1520 series does, but not the 1501. The only way you're going to be able to add Bluetooth technology is to purchase a Bluetooth usb adapter. Here's a link to the 1501 manuals if you would like to look over them.
