I have 3 hand sets. None are working properly. I have checked connections and batteries. All lights on the bases are on. Regardless of what you do, the dial tone is there making calling out impossible. The phones don't ring, either. There are "No low battery" lights on. My touch tone phone does work if that makes any difference.

Re: Phone not working
If the VTech is plugged into a different phone outlet than your touch-tone, then I know what your problem is. There are two wires that are hooked up inside the outlet box that run to the jack that your phone cord plugs into. One wire is for the "ring", the other one is for "tip". If these two wires are hooked-up backwards, it will cause you to have a dial tone whether you press any number buttons or not. Don't fret...it's an easy fix. If you pull the cover off of the outlet and reverse the wires meaning that if depending on which two are hooked up to the jack, whether it's the black and yellow pair, or the red and green pair, all you have to do is loosen the two screws that are securing the two wires that are going to the actual jack, and reverse them. Then just tighten the screws back up and replace the cover on your outlet. You should be ready to reach out and touch someone immediately! Hope this helps and have a great day!

Make sure your connection to the phone jack is secure. Use another wired phone to make sure connection is good to your phone. Secure connection in back of phone, and plug it in. The base MUST have power to transmit the signal to the handset even if the handset has a fresh charge. Although the handset is normally linked to the bases, check to make sure via the instructions. To determine if the base recognizes the handset, press the "LOCATE HANDSET" button. If the hadset responds, the links is there.

My handset displays CONNECTING...
Move the handset closer to the telephone base. You might have moved out of range.
This is what was listed in the Vtech Manual.
What I suggest is not just powering it off, but remove battery and wait a couple of minutes. Put battery back in and try it. The other thing I suggest is a new battery or switching it temporarily with a phone that works, to see if that helps before you buy a new one. If the battery is weak it will have trouble reaching the base.
You are pretty close to the solution. The problem is the charge detection in the handset. All handsets on a cordless phone detect the battery level with an hexadecimal value in the memory. Each hex value equal a volt value of the battery. EX: 3.5v = 9B 3.6v = 9C 3.7v =9D etc... The problem is the hex value in your defective handset are all mess up. So 9B is not 3.5v anymore. Then your handset could last 1hr after foul charge or doesn't alert you before the phone goes dead due to low BAtt.
