This is the first time I have worked on the rear brakes. There is a phillips head screw showing on the outside drum face. Does it have to be removed before the drum will slide off. Some rust showing around the axle hub where the drum attaches so have sprayed it with penetrating oil.

Yes the phillips head screws have to be removed, on some models there are two more holes in the face of the drum to insert threaded bolts to remove the drum, simply thread the bolts in to remove the drum.
Yep to 8mm bolts and wind them in and it comes off , just clean the threads in the drum and give a good soak with wd40 before hand
