SOURCE: Describe your Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S500

The fault may be with the apature in the lens, or the CCD sensor sensitivity. Go through all the menus first just in case something was changed.

Maybe the camera is in the manual mode, and the apature is turned all the way down???

If all else fails, the camera may be exensive to service.

It is problem of lens mechanism and only solution is to replace lens assembly. Local camera repair shop will help you to replace lens assembly because it is not user level repair.

Power shot 500 all of a sudden does not focus and the blurry image is a pinkish color when captured.

If your camera is an S500, this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Blurred pictures

Check that the auto focus and auto exposure is turned on. Check that the camera is not in the macro mode for normal picture taking.

It is possible that there is a defect that is not allowing proper focus. In this case your camera will require service.

I need advice on how to take Ice-hockey action pics...

Pictures get blurred because of several reasons:

Low shutter speed - occurs in low lightning conditions.
Auto focus not focused - occurs when pressing the shutter button all the way without waiting for the auto focus ready signal (green box)

To speed up the shutter do the following:
In Camera menu-Quality- Set ISO 100 for outdoor, ISO 400 indoor.

To avert focus problems, set camera menu-Rec- Focus-Infinity, Rec-Quick shutter-On

Hope that helps.

If you open the camera up, whick I know is an intricate task, and take the screen down but don't unplug it, at the right bottom their is something that resembles a watch battery, if you can figure out how to get it off and find a replacement it will be fixed... This battery serves a a sort of memory power, even though you have batteries, this battery keeps the memory for the camera's software, so inturn without it the camera is dead in the water. this is fixable!
