Question about Rinnai RHFE-1004FA 38,400 BTU Energy Saver Ductless Heater - LP Gas

1 Answer

My new RHFE-1004FA has a slight whistle to it.

Went to camp today to start the furnace for the winter. When I fired it up it seems to have a slight whistle that is intermediate. It didn't do that this fall when I installed it. I did add a propane tank. Is it possible it has air in the line? If so how do I purge it?

I have the same problem with my 1004FA.Talked to tech. support they said it was from having high traces of methanol in the LP tanks. You have to use a manometer to adjust the air shutter on your Rinnai.

May have a bad regulator on the tank or bad gas pressure. The colder it is, the less gas pressure you get out of the tank.

I need the sheet to correct the wistle noise on the 1004 e moore

The whistling noise may be from an improper air intake shutter control adjustment. For a Natural Gas Unit the air shutter control should only be open about 1/4 " . Also, when checking that, look to see if it's clogged with dust and lint. If so, vacuum it out using a crevice tool on the hose of your vacuum.

Vent-free Gas Appliances should be cleaned and serviced at least once a year. Usually in the Fall before firing it up for the heating season. Twice if you have house pets. Especially one's that shed a lot.

The furnace shuts itself off.

Is it giving you any error codes? Can you give us any more details like how do you get it started or is there a noise associated with the failure?

I'd like information on the reliability of Rinnai 1004FA furnaces. Do they need regular cleanings?

Beside the filters in the back, no they don't require much. After 8 years of installing and servicing these units, I haven't found a unit yet that was running faulty due to lack of service. Would recommend a cleaning of the burners about every 3-5 years. Rinnai recommends cleaning the unit with compressed air through the front grate annually...but that doesn't require disassembly

Sounds like a bad gas solenoid. They are not cheap to replace because there are three of them. I would check into replacing it.
