Media Test Failure?

The hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite P25-S5092 fizzled out about a year ago, and I just installed a new hard drive, but when I turn the computer on, the same message comes up on the screen over and over again. It says :
MEDIA TEST FAILURE, CHECK CABLE
EXITING PXE-ROM

Immediately after bootup before POST test, i get the error message PXE-E61: Media Test Failure check cable and the next error message below it states PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE-ROM. These errors are the same before and after I've replaced the hard drive and RAM. It is on a Toshiba P25-S509

Toshiba satellite L455D-S5976 PXE-E61 media test failure...brand new hard drive What do I do???

You need to boot from an installation CD for the operating system, or the Toshiba restore set. New hard drives are completely blank when you purchase them. The computer is looking for something to boot from and cant find it, so it trys to boot from ethernet. Check your bios set up for boot order and boot devices. You might try disabling boot from network.

Hope this helps

What is the largest hard drive supported by toshiba p25 s507

The specs say that you have a 60Gb. hard drive. If the unit is less than 2 years old, you should be able to install a 200-300 GB. hard drive without any issues. The older laptops have a 137 GB. limit on hard drive partition space. You still can put a larger capacity drive, but you will have to partition the drive into c: 137GB, then the second partition can be any size.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response
Thanks, Joe

I recently installed windows seven and now it doesnt give me the option to connect to the internet via wifi,i also looked in device manager as it is not listed.

Hi, the problem here is that your pc was not designed for windows seven. You can try downloading the latest driver for your device, or you may need to use a plug in to usb, to get wifi. Also for windows 7 you will need a minimum of 2Gig of memory.

Toshiba satellite 1805 s204 "media test failure, check cable"....

Did you install the windows system etc? If not boot from the system restore cd and it should work. If it will not boot from the cd-rom then more damage was done then was apparent and the unit would require factory qualified repair. Be sure of the cost before committing to repair since on laptops sometimes it is cheaper to replace the repair. Good Luck

Cannot get Toshiba P@% S507 to see new hard drive.

you can't use a restore disk made for a specific hard drive with a much larger hard drive. This information is checked by the restore cd. You would need to contact toshiba and get a regular windows install cd.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I am tempted to think that the CMOS/BIOS could not detect the internal hard disk and therefore is booting from the LAN. Pls reboot and enter CMOS/BIOS setup. Thereafter determine if the computer could detect the hard disk either auto or manually.

If the above solution has merit, pls click on my "Ask Me" to explore additional options, postback how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
