Didn't take the time to wait until the hot surface light had gone off and proceeded to clean the areas which didn't come off easy with the cleaner. Being in a hurry I used my nail to try to get area cleaned. Have taken finish off in small areas. Is there anything I can do?

Re: took the finish off on areas
Find it hard to belive you would remove the finish with your fingernail, espacially if it was hot, thinkin youd melt your nail, but whatever, applying the cream to stubborn spots and then scraping them off with a razor blade, held flat not using hte point, is the best way to remove stains, and if the finish has been tremoved ther is nothin to to short of replacing the main top assembly

I see that you are having trouble with the element light staying on after all power control knobs have been put into the off position on your Frigidaire range, model# FEF366EC. The Element ON indicator lights will glow when one or more of the surface elements are turned ON. A quick glance at these indicator lights when cooking is finished is an easy check to be sure all control knobs are turned OFF. The Hot Surface indicator light will continue to glow AFTER the control knob is turned to the OFF position and will glow until the heating surface area has cooled sufficiently. I suggest resetting your appliance by shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker for 2-3 minutes. Once power is restored, the first thing you will need to do is set the clock. You will do this by pressing the "clock" button, and then you will press and hold down either the up or down arrows until the correct time appears. Try turning the burner on that the indicator light stays on the most. When you turn it off if you are still having trouble with the element light staying on, I suggest contacting a local authorized technician. Hope this helps.
You probably won't get any useful response since you didn't include make and model.
Once you have that, enter that info at the link below to see if Sears has info on your range.
They have many thousands of illustrations, part numbers and prices that can give you guidance:
I had the same problem, but I found out it was only when one particular burner was turned on. I waited for the problem burner to cool, then took the fist of my hand and tapped on the burner itself and the light goes out every time. Works like a charm..probably a loose connection with that one burner.
mvek, If you could see through the glass, you'd see "temperature sensors" located near the elements. They're very sensitive little guys, and rightly so! Their job is to detect temps and energize the warning light on the cooktop so users won't get burned.
To answer your question... It appears that there is an issue with the front left sensor (and possibly the right as well). The temp warning lamps should NEVER go off immediately. Please call for warranty repair (1-800-GE-CARES). This is an unsafe condition for you and your Family. The warning indicators are there for a reason and should indicate high temp's as long as high temp's are present.
Your hot surface indicator light might have a short that causes it to stay on all of the time. If you can, try unplugging it for a little while and plugging it back up. If the light is still on, you have a short. You can still use the stove, but the light staying on will not be any help to you.
what i suggest to another customer is to get some of that new easy off that's made for self cleaning ovens and soak it in that for awhile the customer never respond back so i didn't know if it worked now as far as getting i cant say only as the foil is not a warranty issue you reallydon't need it in a self cleaning oven
