Rca 52'' rear project. d52w20 smells and powers off

My projection tv hisses and powers off then smells like a fuse or wire is burning

You need to replace the flyback number 259296 very common problem and easy repair. You can get a replacement flyback at the following link with free detailed instructions with pictures so you can easially do the repair yourself. Heres the link.

Screen flickered when turned on then the back of tv made a sizzling sound and then it went out. no burning smell detected.


Sounds like a bad connection at a capacitor on power board. Safety issue, take to shop. Minor repair. Could also be infamous picture tube failure, usually red one.

My rca projection tv 52inch. attempts to come on but it fails. Seems to be the power supply fuse is out but how can we check it without the costly expense?


It not the fuse,all the time it the capacitors are burn.Check for puff up capacitors.Take the back cover off check,check near right the deflection circuit.

RCA projection, no power, no sound. recently moved.

Burnt smell


Beside horizontal transistor a ceramic capacitor .087 2500v (???) burn in the buttom chassis (solder). or fly back start to burn or blown. But I think is a ceramic capacitor.

Take the back off the TV look where the wire from the power plug enters the TV. There is a small fuse on the board where the wire plugs into. If that fuse is blown, you have a power supply problem.

If its the regular glass fuse, radio shack should have a replacement for that just bring the old fuse with you so you can get the correct amp fuse. If it blows again, let me know and I will try to assist you as usually fuses blow for a raeson. Please respond to this same post when replying.

RCA D52W20 52 Fuse problem


Well you could always use a bigger fuse but I would not advise to do it, it could and most likely will blow tv not fuse. Fuses ussually blow from a short or power surge. If it is new or under warranty I would return it for replacement or repair.

RCA D52W20 Blue Tube doesn't power on


From your description it does sound if the blue crt has failed. But it can be the crt board or a high voltage issue. intermittantly like that could be a connection problem. is there any hissing ..cracking or smells?
