Question about Panasonic PT-44LCX65 Television

Made a pop sound then screen went black- won't power back on

While watching TV the other night we heard a "POP" then the screen went black. we assumed that it was the bulb since we have had the Tv for about 3 years. The lamp indicator light was flashing but I am not sure how many times. Since then have unplugged it but plugged it back in to see what the trouble code was. Now we only hear a clicking noise coming from inside. Nothing else

I did repair the TV. it surely was the bulb. Blown to bits. I decided to just replace the whole assembly, since I was not sure that the casing was not affected by the small explosion. I was able to find the entire assembly on ebay from a highly recommended seller (whom I talked with on the phone with twice and he shipped very fast). Paid 127.50 including shipping and the unit was OEM with garantee of authenticity. They also had an exchange program for the retired assembly. I found this to be the case with local dealers as well (central FL). But their price was 100.00 higher. Our TV has been up and running for a few weeks now, Just as beautifully crisp as before. Have not noticed any difference, and I am very observant when it comes to the quality of colors and resolution. will post updates if I have any issues so if I don't come back there are no more issues.

    Thnaks for the advice!

I'm sure you've resolved this by now, but I am brand new to this site and have the same TV, and have had the same issue. Sorry it's a bit late.

The pop was definitely the bulb bursting. You can pretty easily do this bulb replacement yourself as Panasonic has provided a nice little pull out module that can be removed by popping the front plate off (which requires no tools at all) and then opening the hatch where the bulb assembly is and loosening just one screw. Once that is done you will be able to slide the entire bulb assembly out of the TV. Though they don't always shatter, I suspect that since you heard it "pop", you will find this assembly full of broken glass.

You can either buy an entire new assembly such as this one...

made a pop sound then screen went black- won't pow - 82536f6.jpg
and just slide the new one in,

or if you're comfortable with it, you can open this lamp assembly up by removing just a few more screws (about 4) and just replacing the bulb. I did need to buy a very long #2 Phillips head screw driver to reach one of the screws.

If you search Google for TY-LA1000 you will find both the lamp kit and just the bulb. Be careful though for the really cheap bulbs, it does make a difference, so if it seems drastically cheaper than all the others, there is likely a reason.

Hope this helps you and sorry for the slow response.

Pop sound then no picture, just sound

I assume this is a plasma TV? You will have a fuse blown on either the Y or Z sutain board, there is also a possibility one of the driver IC's has blown on the buffer board, this will shut down the screen & leave the audio working normally. You can check these boards which sit on the left & right hand sides of the screen.

I heard a pop and screen wet black. red lamp

Lamp inside TV is broken and requires replacement. Pop sound was its breaking sound.
Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual, pretty easy.
Please buy Sony original lamp for TV safety and avoid aftermarket/ cheap lamp.
Let me know if you need to download user manual copy.
Thanks.

I think that the pop you heard was an electrolytic capacitor blowing its top on the picture frame board. If you are able to check this for yourself by looking on the board for the one/s with a bulging top or are a brownish/black colour like something has caught fire. And also in this situation smell can be of great help as it will smell burnt out but PLEASE before putting your nose or anything else in the tv take all necessary precautions against electric shock and discharge any electrolytic capacitors in the vicinity. If you are not able to do this yourself find a competant technician. Hope this helps.
