How to log into Dell Windows 7 computer forgot admin password?

Forgot Dell administrator password? Couldn't log on to Windows 7? It's really frustrated thing if Dell computer is locked since that happens. But even though, we can still find other ways to reset Windows 7 admin password without reset disk.

One: Reset Windows 7 admin password with Chntpw

The followings are the main steps to use Chntpw to reset Windows 7 forgotten admin password.

1. Get Chntpw and create a CD Windows password reset disk with it on available computer.

Besides Chntpw, iSunshare Windows Password Genius is another effective tool for creating Windows password reset disk.

2. Set your locked computer boot from CD-ROM.

When power on the computer, enter BIOS settings, choose BOOT option, and select CD-ROM as the first boot device.

3. Reset Windows 7 password to be blank

3.1 Select the partition where Windows was installed on

3.2 Select path and registry files

3.3 Select which part of registry to load, use predefined choices.

3.4 Edit user data and passwords, and select a user to reset its password. There is one simple choice - clear (blank) user password. Choose it and clear administrator password to blank instantly.

When successfully clear out the administrator password, quit out and press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart computer, logging in to Dell Windows 7 computer without password.

Two: Reset Windows 7 password with Offline NT Password Registry Editor

Besides Chntpw, you can create a live cd or bootable usb with Offline NT Password Registry Editor which is a freeware program. It is based on the text console, so it may be a little difficult to carry out.

Here are the main steps to use Offline NT password registry editor:

<1> Get Offline NT Password Registry Editor and use it to create a live cd or bootable USB disk.

<2> Set your dell computer to boot with the USB

<3> Follow the Windows 7 password reset instruction to finish the operation when the password reset program starts.

I have a Dell VOSTRO 1700 running VISTA, purchased March 2008 (out of warranty). I used the Toshiba DVD Drive only a few times. Since Oct 2009, the laptop unit (softwarewise) does not ''see'' the Drive....

Hi,

This is becoming a common problem. Let's see if we can save you $150!!

If your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM Drive Appears To Be Missing then you will need to manually edit your registry.

Follow the instruction below.

Click Start Menu. In the Search box, type regedit, and then click OK. A Registry Editor window will open up.

1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
3. Expand Control, and then expand Class.
4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
5. In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.

Note An UpperFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak.
6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
7. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the UpperFilters registry entry:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?
The UpperFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.

Note Do not exit Registry Editor. You must have this program for the next step.
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry
5. In the right pane (topic area), click LowerFilters.

Note An LowerFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the LowerFilters registry entry, you must click LowerFilters and not LowerFilters.bak.
6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
7. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the LowerFilters registry entry:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?
The LowerFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.
8. Exit Registry Editor.
Step 4: Restart the computer.

This should resolve the problem and there is no easy fix unless you factory restore or reinstall the operating system.

Good luck and please let me know if there is anymore advice that you need.

My comuter does not see my cd-dvd I need to reinstall drivers

First thing first is to focus. All you need to do is to enter "regedit" after clicking Start >> RUN. Under REGISTRY EDITOR screen click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Class >{4D36E965-E325-``CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Please highlight "{4D36E965-E325-``CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}" and then on the right pane of the window/Registry Editor, you can see either Lowerfilters and Upperfilters. From then all you need to do is to highlight and then make a "RIGHT CLICK" from the mouse and select for "DELETE" option. After deleting either Lowerfilters and Upperfilters just exit out from Registry Editor screen and shutdown your laptop. Then after 1 minute have to turn it back on then retry checking if it ables to shows up your OPTICAL DRIVE or not. Thank you.

Dell Latitude Laptop no longer reads cds and dvds in the drive

Hi,
Error code 41 (the device cannot start) is usually caused by burning programs like Roxio.
A lot of burning programs, and not just Roxio's, have a habit of screwing Window's Registry, XP's in particular.
This problem usually occurs because people don't follow the correct procedure, and/or install too many burning programs.

Here's the fix >>>>>>>

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (click on start, run and type regedit)
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.
NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

Restart your computer.

Hope this helps, good luck.

After getting registry editor wat to do?

They easiest and best way to remove AVG is to click on start, click run, type appwiz.cpl and press enter. Find AVG and click uninstall. If you do not have extensive experience with the registry editor I would strongly advice against trying to remove this way. That should be a last resort only and involves more steps than just using regedit.

If the uninstall will not run due to corruption, you may have to download AVG again from http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10891365 and install it completely, reboot, then go back through the removal process.

Please let me know if this solves your problem.

Thanks,
Adam
