Press F8 during system startup repeatedly and see if a menu comes. If it comes then you will find a option named Safe Mode. Select it and press enter twice.
Let me know if you can start your pc in safe mode or not

Have you got a spare hard drive to hand if so get yourself a copy of xp cd and place this in pc and make sure you have the main c not connected and then install xp as normal on this hard dive then when all is installed then connect the first c drive as the slave drive you may have to move the jumpers at back of hard drive and then boot into the new installed windows don't worry about the other stuff for the motherboard once you have booted in then you may get access to the files just copy all files out to the new drive then remove drive new hard drive from pc and re-try with the old hard drive with the the recovery disc if you get the blue screen then you know that the hard drive has problems.

the only thing wrong with that is the Emachines recovery disc is catered for 1 manufacture motherboard with the devices on you may find that the recovery disc wo'nt work for yoyr pc use any copy of xp cd to install then hunt about the web for drivers for the pc and burn a copy for next time you need them I would go for an imaging software to make a backup of pc then whan you need it you just restore from this and away you go up and running agaig in notime at all.

good luck

Volume error no sound card or mixer

I am assuming that you are referring to a sound card driver, not a sound card itself (can't download hardware). If you know where to get the driver, you can download it with any computer. Just make sure you get the one for the oeprating system you will be installing it on. Simply copy the downloaded driver file to removable media (floppy disk if it is small enough, flash drive, CD, etc) or transfer it over a newtork. If it is an embedded sound controller on the motherboard, you will need to download it from the Packard Bell website. Make sure you get the one for your specific computer model. If it is an add-in card, you may need to get the driver from that manufacturer. Again, you will need to know the specific model of the card to get the proper driver.

Packard bell branded Mustek Be@arpaw 1200CU+ scanner

FIRST and most important - uninstall any other attempts at scanner software using the control panel and add/remove software.
THen download and run this file: ftp://ftp.mustek.com.tw/pub/driver/BearPaw/1200CUPLUS/Windows/PS1G_WEB.exe

This works for my Packard Bell branded Mustek Bearpaw 1200CU+ scanner under XP Pro SP3.

On the same site Mustek also have Vista drivers available!!!!!

Try this to see if that will fix your problem. Alot of new computers come with crapware installed in order to boost their profit margin. This will help you identify and eliminate it.

If you cannot see the speaker icon in the taskbar, click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and tick place icon in the taskbar. That's if a driver has been installed for your sound device which is a creative sounblaster I think.
