Question about Samsung HL-R4266W 42" HDTV-Ready Projection Television

Check Fan 2

I ordered fan 2. I assume fan 1 is the one you can see when you remove the backing. Fan 2 is the one on the bulb assy. tray?

My TV sounds like the fan has gone bad. It sounds like a bicycle tire that has a playing card next to the spokes. If there are only two fans, and Fan #1 is the one you can see when you open the backing, then it has to be Fan #2 I have narrowed the sound comeing from next to the lamp assembly

Lamp#2, you need to unscrews(2) & unplugged the cables(2 or 3)of the Engine. then easy to replace.

If you want, I can send the picture for disassembling.

you will need to check the fans are all switching on when you turn the tv on, it might be one of the fan sensors that has gone bad, the tv wont turn on if it detects that the fans or a single fan is not working. I have not worked on this particular set , but that would be the first place i would look, if you find a fan is not firing up and if you have a multimeter, then check to see if you have a 12v voltage going to the fan, an easy way of rectifying it is to run a wire from one of the other working fans to the positive of the fan that isnt working. This would at least eliminate the fan as the culprit, if the tv starts up normally then the problem lies in why the fan is not receiving power. I ran a tv using this method for over 8 months before it died, from other problems i might add , not the fact i bypassed the fan power circuit.

Power light blinks on 4 times then off

Have you replaced the lamp recently?
If so make sure the Lamp door is reinstalled correctly as a 4 blink error codes indicates Lamp door failure.

Check fan # 1

There is a slight possibility that fan #1 is still good. I would still investigate it though. If the heat is not controlled, more damage could be done. I'm not sure which fan is #1. I think on the PCB of the TV would have some kinda of marking that would say FAN 1, FAN 2, etc.

Hitachi 60V710 shuts off after 2 min

Not an expert, but; 2 minutes is roughly the time it takes for something to go over temp.

So id be looking for an unplugged fan connector or similar issue. Its an odd problem where I suspect the bulb or sensor for the unit is reaching an over temperature situation as its unusual to start perform as expected then shut down. A sensor may have been damaged for one the improper bulb has been used. The tolerances for these devices are very fine, they normally shut down to prevent further damage like a baked lcd matrix etc.

If you are game to pull it apart or even to check it, then check for fan start at the time when it powers off, if it doesnt then thats a reasonble logical step for it powering off. So remove cover and check for fan being plugged in. Next step look around the bulb area for a small resistor shaped item that could be the temp sensor bent outta shape. Best of luck. :o)

I took a can of compressed air and blew air into the larger openings. A nice cloud of dust and several puffs of air later, the tv turned on.
