Changes get ignored after initial setup

I just bought the DIR-655 router and it is working great. I only have one problem, when I go back in to change the setup the changes get ignored. If I hit the reset I can make changes but I have to make all of them again since it wipes out most the setup I did and resets to factory values. But the new changes will be saved but some time later, hours - not sure how many but less than 12, if I go in to make additional changes they do not apply. I hit the save button, the router gets rebooted and when I go back in to check none have applied. I have cleared my browser cache and verified this with another computer to check the changes. I am on firmware version 1.21 dated 10/9/2008. Any help would be appreciated.

I was/am hardwired into the router, not even through a hub.

My take on this problem is to reload the 1.10 firmware (i.e. the firmware that came with the router, usually). It can be downloaded from the net dlink.ca or .com. 1.10 works properly and does not give the problem, thus far. I have posted a request for sys help thru DLink, hoping to get a straight answer about this.

I just fixed my router which is exactly the same with the same problem.
To fix it reset the router to its defaults..192.168.0.1, change your computer ip to automatic since the router's default is DHCP. Use the browser to open the config pages ie at 192.168.0.1 admin no passwd. do all configurations save but DONOT REBOOT until all config is complete. then reboot through tools>system>reboot button. that takes care of the router. Your computer will need to reset the ip if you turned off DHCP...ie network connection>select your connection> tcp ip>properties...as usual.
MUST reboot the computer before access the config pages again, since the computer is out of sync with the router config. Use the browser go to the gateway ip and voila...its a one shot deal, the folks at DLink did not know how to "fix it" properly...so this maybe it until the next firmware bugs get fixed...!

I was setting it up from a hardwired connection. It goes directly into the router, not through a hub.

It sounds like something I did (years back :-)) - entering the setup in the Router with a wireless conection, - THAT will go wrong, - use a wire when you access your Routher for changes.

Cant find wep key

Us a wired connection to access the routers setup menu and look under the security tab for the WEP key or just enter a new one, or try pressing the reset button for 20 seconds. That should restore it to factory defaults.

Hi Baker,

I got your issue, Inorder to disable the security on your router follow these steps,

1. Open your browser (eg: Internet Explorer), clear the address bar and type 192.168.0.1 and hit enter, You will be logged into Dlink router setup page

2. Click on security on that page

3. changed the security mode to disabled and then save the changes which you have made

4. then your network is unsecured, you can connect to your wireless network without any security password

Please follow this, it will work

Thanks & Regards
Prema.

When setting up my new D=Link wireless router I get an error message 302 internal error router setup can not continue I can connect on my old router . What does this message mean?

I called the D-LInk support number . The technician was extremely rude and of no help . It was so bad I returned the router to the store and bought a Linksys router. It was easier to install and works great.

Wireless will not start.

Funny enough... my product was broken. I took it back and exchanged it (Props to Circuit city for making it so easy for me)

The new one I have is working quite well, i am happy with it, and glad I didn't exchange it for a different brand.

Setup DIR-655 w/ Westell 6100 USB DSL Modem

First check if your computer can get on the modem with an Ethernet ( This is to find out if your router will work with your modem) If you cannot get on give your ISP a call to have them configure the modem for Ethernet connection. If you do get on then connect the router to the modem and your computer to the router. You can run the CD for the router or do the connection manually.
