Question about Leica D-lux 3 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Button stuck, casuing unrepsonsiveness in all other buttons

Hi, I have a Leica D-Lux 3. Recently I as shooting pictures throughout the day. I switched the camera off and then back on at one point and none of the buttons were working (I couldn't scroll through pictures I'd taken or even press the shutter to take a picture).
Everything else is fine, I can see the LCD display, change the ratio of the picture, change the focus, go onto different modes. I discovered that when I went to the 'scene selection' mode on the camera (where you can choose different presets like sport mode, landscape mode etc) that the menu was constantly being scrolled up like the up button was being held down.
I found that holding the down button, stopped the scrolling, but didn't actually scroll down and I still couldn't get the functions of any other buttons to work and I think that the problem is the computer is constantly being loaded with the functions of the 'up' button so can't process anything else. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
I haven't found a camera repair shop in the area I am in at the moment, but do you think it's something that can be fixed without sending it away for repair?

Ok thanks for the advice. I will try using the alcoholic que tip tonight and give it a clean, though I don't feel too comftable doing this it's worth a try. I do remember however that when I had the casing of the camera off and the rubber pad was sepeated from the circuit board, I tried switching the camera on and the problem with the still occured, behaving as if the 'up' button was still being pressed.
Questions I have about it - Is it possible that particles on the other side of the circuit board may be causing the problem? If so would removing the circuit board be advised to clean the other side?
Also would trying to take the internal battery out be recommended to maybe try and reset the circuit board? (Though it doesn't look like it can come out too easily)
    Many Thanks.

I have my camera fixed now :) I had to send it off to Leica for a service. They gave me a great repair service, doing it under garuentee, returning it promptly and very securely packaged as well. On the invoice it says that the zoom switch was replaced and so I believe this is the soltuion to this problem.

Most buttons on a camera are a simple raised rubber pad over a printed circuit board. The button gets pressed, a concuctive material on the bottom of the rubber pad puts a short across a printed pad. If the camera senses a short across the down button, it will ignore all other buttons. You need to take the back off the camera and the rubber button pad will probably be right in the back, clean the contact with an alcohol Qtip and you should be OK.

not likely, as PCB's are usually 2 or more layers thick. the backside is a totally different board circuit. If cleaning doesnt stop the "out of control" up button, then removing the onboard battery (its a capacitor I beleive and is usually soldered in, not socketed) might help, but leaving the batteries out for a week will do the same thing. You could hasten this by discharging the capacitor with a resistor across the + and ground of the camera. Is there a recessed reset button on the bottom (like all SONY's) I would try that first. If cleaning doesnt help, seek professional help. Good luck, Leica's are worth fixing. If cost prohibitive, drop me a line. Steve.

Your 4GB card is an SDHC card. Is your card reader compatible with SDHC cards, or only with SD cards (2GB or smaller)?

Recently I bought Leica D-Lux 5 Digital Camera on Creaiglist. It does not have stickers on the bottom of the camera and I don't know the serial number too. How can I get necessary stickers to stic

Each camera made has it's own serial number so the manufacture can track the item for warranty service, it is impossible to obtain stickers for that reason.

Leica c lux 3 system error (zoom) Zoom is stuck.

i read the manual, and they recommend bringing it to a service center, after turning it on and off. Sometimes sand gets stuck in the lens, or sometimes the internal button cell battery goes dead which would disable the zoom. If you feel confident in your component abilities, crack it open and replace that battery.

You may have the flash set to slow shutter sync. Press the flash button (the one with the lightning bolt) and watch the screen for a bolt and an "A" or "auto".
