Hi Didi

You are liable for any damaged caused to things or persons on Fixya, if you want for example tell the user to remove the heathsink and hoover it, stick to health and safety basic rules.

Tell them that the PC must be unplugged from power, and that they should not touch circuits.

I always suggest users to call a tech , and tell them that they can DIY, but at their risk.

If you tell them to hoover the inside, tell also them to use a small battery powered hoover, if they use their home hoover to near to the board they can s.uck in components and breack soldering joint.

Often you need to understand if the user has enough tech skills to do a repair job or not.

Personally I prefer to tell users that they should work with power cord not connected. If this is not possible, I tell them to call a tech, or to do a dangerous operation at their risk.

Hope this had been helpful.

Good luck!

G.

Anything that the factory say that should not be performed by the user, nearly everything.

Always tell users DIY at your risk, that is the best thing to do.

If they risk to get electrocuted, tell them that they should not do this or that and that they should call an engineer.

If they risk to mess up their system or to damage their stuff, just tell them that there is a risk of damage, or data loss.

Man the prob is your monitor as it seems, coz this was a prob i was facing and the new LCD worked easily and i think you can also solve it by changing the direct draw refresh rate in dxdiag. PROCEED WITH CAUTION!! or else give more details that of your monitor.

Just out of box - switched on - looks as if it is working - monitor blank - nothing

If the machine is new and under warrenty then it is best to send it back, while your waiting try the monitor on a different machine and vice versa

I want to remove the mounting plate attached to the motherboard

i have to say i strongly reccommend u take it to an expert.. it could be so dangerous for u to take on this job.. even i wldnt try it and i no wot im doing lol. A capacitor a passive electrical component that can store energy in the electric field between a pair of conductors (called plates). ur pc cud b turned off for a year but these conductors store th energy indefinately..so even after being off for a year if u were to place ur finger btween these conductors u wud get such a boot off it ud wonder whr all ur extremities went to and ud have a diff hairdo lol.. unless ur confident (and preferably qualified lol) i wld strongly urge u not to.. sooo not worth it..and unless qualified any do-it-yourself u take on is ur own responsibility. and unless u understand th next line..jus dont bother lol

My laptop went funny the picture statred to distort now iv restarted it i can see anything the laptop is on but the screen is black with lines on it

2 horizontal or vertical lines on ur screen or 2 lines in a cross are problems that can be quite easily repaired by a specialist.. in fact if th lines are very distinct a repair shop may b able to follow them directly to a broken connection thats causing a loss of info on th screen along th edge of th lcd.. often these connectors can b repaired rather than having to buy a new 1.. def not a biggie, but def needs sorting by experts.!! x.x.x Dyanne x.x.x

I removed the processor in my P4 desktop PC and when I replaced the processor the PC would not power up. Have I accidentally unplugged a cable or is there a chance that I've zapped the processor with...

there is a very good chance of having zapped th cpu wit static if u didnt ground ur stat lec on a radiator or something metal.. or much more likely th motherboard if th points on that were touched..why was th cpu removed.?? and did u apply some anti thermal grease btween th cpu and th heatsink block when u replaced it.?? not that th lack of it wud affect th cpu straight away neccessarily.. but over a time th cpu would get hotter than it should/would with thermal grease applied.. is there no movement of anything at all now.?? because that cud b a connector attaching th power cable to th motherboard is unplugged..this wud either b th long connector that goes direct to th m/b or a little 4pin one.. alternatively it cud b th tiny connector attaching th heatsink fan to th m/b..but this is unlikely as ur cpu would undoubtedly have overheated and gone kaboom by now if that was th case.. plus th power supply wud still b sparkin juice still.. some pc's have a tiny on off switch at th back (not to b confused wit th tiny adapter on th power supply as that changes th voltage) if all this appears to b in order im afraid it looks as tho either th m/b, cpu, or power supply have blown.. did u touch ne of th pins on th processor.?? lol sorry bout th length o this msg haha once i start i cant ******* :oD Tekz.+*♥
