Question about Kenmore Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer will not run

We have a situation where when we push the "on" button of the dryer, it will start, but as soon as we take our finger off the "on button, the dryer shuts off. Over the past year or so, it would do this but only after using it for long periods of time (i.e. 4-5 consecutive loads of clothes). Now, the dryer does this on the initial load and will not run.

Hello tomechkojr,
Many dryer motors have a centrifcal switch on the motor that should allow the motor to continue operating after you remove the momentary start switch. Chances are, that motor switch is hanging up and not actuating to keep power on to the motor. Keep me posted and I'll follow along with you to help..

Rick

Why does dryer run as soon as main button is pushed.

It can also be a bad relay on the the control board. This problem requires a tech to properly do a diagnostic, its not a simple problem for any technician.

I have a Candy GOU218 when I push the start button it does start the dryer but as soon as I release my finger from the button it stops, It started doing it around a week ago so I had to push and hold

There are push to start circuits used for motors and then there are holding circuits that keep the unit running. This way the dryer stops if the circuit is open due to high temperature or end of the cycle. It seems as if the holding circuit (could be a rotary switch that stays closed while the dryer is running) or a holding circuit relay (stays closed until circuit is broken by the control) has failed.

Must hold start button to run. no heat

disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor

Dryer wont stay running

Either the motor relay, or if this is an evenheat dryer, the evenheat control board could be bad.

I think you may have a bad relay on the motor, where power is re-applied after the push start is released
