What kind of computer is it? how old is it? have you added, removed or changed hardware recently? have there been any power spikes, outages or surges lately while the computer was running? lastly are the voltage settings 120V/240V on the power supply set correctly? it sounds like the power supply is dead from what i've read but i can't be sure because there are many reasons this could be happening, i.e. the processor gets too hot while the system is trying to start and the computer shuts down to prevent damage to it, also have you tried plugin the system into another wall outlet or socket on your power strip? if no hardware has been add, removed or changed. you can start with a power supply but if after that it still won't power up there's a deeper cause to look for!

hope this helps

it still seems as though your pc is shutting down due to overheating have someone check your processor and heatsink/cooling fan there may be a need for the cooling compound to be changed. does the fan on your heatsink spin? is it dusty? is the heatsink itself dusty? how many fans are being used to cool your pc? also for future reference it's harder on a pc when you turn it on because that's the time when the most current goes through it. but have a qualified technician check the processor and see if it needs to have compound applied and also check the power supply for shorts.

    hope this helps
