Roper (REX5634PQO) dryer will not start

A scissor fell into the lint trap. My daughter started the dryer and started making crazy noises. I removed the rear panel and retrieved the scissor from the lint blower area. Now the dryer will not start. I checked and reset the circuit breaker. What can it be?

This fuse mounts right beside the filter housing. Maybe you unpluge a wire while fiddling with the housing. If this fuse blows then the dryer will not run.Roper (REX5634PQO) dryer will not start - 8ab116a.jpg

I'm sorry to hear that a sock fell into your lint screen chute and I would like to assist you. Be sure to unplug the dryer prior to servicing it! Do not run the dryer until you are able to remove the sock! There are two ways to do this.

A pencil fell into the lint trap of my the dryer is making a grinding noise. Not sure how to remove it.

Take the lint trap out and turn on the dryer and it should force the pencil out through the outside vent by the blowing action of the air.

I pulled out the lint trap to clean it and it was overloaded with lint. Most of the lint fell back and when I turned on the dryer, it blew out but it started making a very loud rattling noise and smelled...

If you are feeling resistance trying to re-insert the lint screen most likely the duct has clogged further down (a load of my husband's shop rags packed mine solid one day). Needless to say it's not safe to run it like this due to the risk of fire.

You can try using a dryer lint trap brush to dislodge the clog. But with it being clogged to this extent probably the best way to make sure it's cleaned out properly is to remove the duct inside the dryer. This would involve taking the back off the dryer and some dissasembly, so if you're not comfortable with doing that please call a professional.

If you feel comfortable with doing this, FIRST make SURE the breaker to your dryer is off and the dryer is unplugged.

1. Turn the dryer around and remove the vent hose from the bottom.
2. Remove the screws to take the back panel of the dryer off.

With the back panel off, you will see the duct on the left hand side that leads from your lint filter on the top of the dryer to the blower housing at the bottom.

3. Remove your lint filter from the top, while doing so note that there are 2 screws right next to it on the top, remove these 2 screws being careful not to loose them in the duct. These hold the top of the duct to the dryer.

4. Next follow the duct down to where it mounts at the bottom to the blower housing, you will need to remove these screws also. there also may be a couple midway up that will be securing the duct in the dryer.

The duct should then be able to be removed from the dryer. Clean it out throughly, be careful, the edges are very sharp in places. Re-install, being careful not to drop the 2 top screws back down into the duct while replacing (you may want to install the lint filter first).

This video shows the procedure of the duct (or airbox) being removed and cleaned with the exception of the removal of the top 2 screws by the lint screen.

Sock fell down lint vent and daughter turned on dryer

Turn off you power to the dryer and then,
You could run a coat hanger straightened out with a hook bent on the end of it into the lint vent at try to hook the sock.
But probably you will have to remove the back to follow the lint vent.
You may try to remove the vent hose and run the straightened coat hanger in there to try and remove the sock.
Hope this helps
