Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

Whirlpool Duet HT GHW9200LW

All of a sudden my washer starting making horrible noises during the spin cycle. Depending on what I am washing, I sometimes use the extra high spin speed. It is since I started using this that I have the problem.

What I noticed is the ring that the tub rotates on (appliance repair person said this is called the tub support) started breaking apart. It is a fiberglass coated piece.

I do not have the extended warranty. An appliance repair person that I talked to said this is a known problem. Once the breakdown occurs, the tub and everything else needs to be replaced according to him and would probably cost about $500 with parts and labor.

Has anyone else experienced this or knows of people that have?

I just had surgery last week so I have not tried taking the washer apart yet. Since I am not allowed to move or lift more than 10 pounds this may have to wait. I'm still waiting to hear from Whirlpool. The comments that were provided though make sense.

After reading some of the other comments, regarding other issues such as moldy smell, water not draining completely or dirt and dirty water left on the rubber gasket, if I should decide to get another washer do I really want to go with another front loader and if so which kind, or go back to a top loader.

I have the same issue with a bad noise during the spin cycle. I was told that the Bearing in the outer tub goes bad a lot on these machines. I was also told that this part is over 350.00 because the Bearing is part of the tub. Has anyone had any luck in removing this Bearing?

My Duet GHW9200LW washer did the same thing as the first person posted...it started banging around, very loudly I may add, on the spin cycle. And these plastic piesces started coming off around the drum, so they were all in my clothes.

The repair man ordered some part that goes around the drum...he said the part was like a **** shell around the drum. He also ordered a new motor bacause some of the plastic stuff fell down into the motor and may have bent some part in it.

After waiting 3 weeks for the part it arrived and the repair man brought the machine back. When the part was on backorder, we decided to just get a new washer - an LG - but then the repair man phoned to say the part had finally arrived, so we said ok fix it. First load we did made just a bit of a noise, but low and behold on the second load it was banging aroung just as before the repair. I phoned repair man and he came back and then thought is must be the ball bearings. Don't know the cost of those but he said he would repair again with no additional cost since the original repair cost was to be $550, since knowing the repair cost was the reason we decided to go ahead and have it repaired instead of buying a new washer.

Now he said he doesn't know if he can fix it and wants to sell us his own personal washer, model GHW9150PW1 for $650, which does not have all the bells and whistles mine has, and his is suppose to be a model 3 years newer than mine. We purchased ours in July 2003.

Does anyone have an opinion about this, and have an answer as how to repair my machine?

    Thanks :-)

I had a bad "clanking" sound during the spin cycle on my
GHW9200LW so I took the back panel off and found that the H2o shield for the drive motor had worked itself loose. I removed Poly-V belt and removed one bolt and motor comes out easily. I found one of the 3 screws that attaches the shield on the floor of the washing machine cabinet. I reinstalled all 3 screws and reinstalled motor and belt. Noise fixed.

I had the same problem with our Frigidaire front loader. Had to take the washer completely apart and traced the problem to broken two out of three arms that attach the basket to the shaft in the back that turns it. I had to purchase new basket for $200.00 and replace it by myself. If I had it replaced by service man, it would probably cost $400.00 or almost half of new machine.

There could be other, less expensive causes. There are springs and cables that counterweigh the weight of the basket. These springs sometime un-attach themselves due to the vibration of the machine. Simple re-attachment of these may correct the problem.

Any of these solutions require the washer to be opened and the exact cause diagnosed. Try not to use the washer untill it is repaired as continuing vibrations and banging will do more and more damage to the machine.

If you decide to do further investigation on your own, make sure the machine is unplugged before attempting to open the back covers!

Front load washers don't "agitate". Did you mean it doesn't tumble during the wash cycle? I need more information. Complete model # and a more detailed description of the issue.

Whirlpool duet ht washer make loud thumping sound during spin cycle

you could have a broken shock but most of the time it's a damaged spider gear and you'll need to replace the washer because the part alone is 500 bucks.you're using to much detergent and it eats at the spider gear and it falls apart

During wash cycle the washer stops at 11 or 12 minutes left and screen reads F . i have a frontload whirlpool duet HT

Just F on its own?
Try to clear it doing the following:
Select PAUSE/CANCEL twice to cancel the cycle. Select
DRAIN/SPIN if there is excessive water in the washer.
Re-select cycle and select HOLD TO START. If the problem
remains, call for service.

Hope this helps comment back if you need further help,

Whirlpool Duet Sport not running it makes clicks and it grinds

A common problem with noises from washing machines has been the under wire that may come out of small clothes. In the washer they can get stuck in one of the inner basket holes and make a scrapping noise, they can actually make there way into the pump and jam the pump, or make a terrible noise when the pump is running. Grab a flash light and have a peek inside the washer for this. Front load washers seem very common to this happen! If the tiny cloth is showing signs of fraying, may be best not to wash it in the washing machine, replace the cloth.=======
It's noisy Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
