There is no pink tint to the light, so I don't think it's the bulb. The laptop works fine when connected to an external monitor.

You may have to replace the ccfl. Never touch the tube with bare hands(sodium), which shortens the life of all ccfl.

SOURCE: My FN+F6 doesnt keep my screen on the laptop open

Change the settings from the display settings panel. (Right click on the desktop and go to display settings)
You should see 2 monitors graphically represented there.
You can make the monitor that is greyed out active by right clicking on the monitor, and selecting active.

SOURCE: Ihave an acer 9410Z laptop the backlight won't

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

I have the acer aspire 5536-5112 black screen

I solve this using Fn + F6, using a 5536 model. Just press Fn + F6, keep holding it and hit the power button, wait for about 5 or 7 seconds, release the Fn and F6 keys. thank you so much guys!

Acer travelmate 5320

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

My samsung r20 backlight keeps going off, if i press the Fn and F5 button it comes on for a second and then back off

If you can see the images on the screen very faintly when you shine a flashlight on the screen, then your problem more than likely is the LCD Inverter. The LCD Inverter costs less than $10, but you will have to disassemble the lcd screen to get to it.

I'm sure you know that you can attach an external monitor to your laptop and hit the FN key and hold it while you hit the correct F1 thru F8 key that will display the image on the external monitor? This could be a solution until you get the inverter fixed.

Now a dishonest repairman will take advantage of you if you take that laptop to them talking about the backlight is going bad. He'll simply bill you $300 and tell you he had to replace the LCD Screen which houses the back light an most times it's easier to replace the screen then fool with the backlight. And in your case all he would do is replace the lcd inverter that sits under the lcd screen and is covered by the strip at the bottom that goes around the lcd screen.

My gateway laptop didn't start up,when powered on only black screen appears

Hi jeangray 17,

If you see power lights but nothing appears on the screen, it could be a "POST" (Power-on Self Test) problem or simply LCD problem.

Here are some steps that you can try.

1. Remove the battery and the ac adapter then press the power button for at least 20 seconds to drain electric charges left from the system. (You may need to repeat this step to get it work.)

2. If above step doesn't work, try to plug in an external monitor and see if you get display from the external monitor. You may need to press the Fn + F10 or F6, depends on the key designed on the keyboard to toggle between displays.

3. If you get display from the external monitor, I'm sure your having problem with the LCD components. In this case, check and replace faulty LCD backlight, LCD cable or LCD inverter. The LCD inverter is often a culprit.

4. Try to reinsert the memory module/s (RAM) of the unit, try using one RAM at a time to see if it works. A faulty RAM will cause the issue not to POST.

5. If reinserting the RAM doesn't help, most likely your motherboard needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Acer aspirw 5100 brightness

1.The Function key (Fn), and the F6 key are pressed to turn the Backlight off to conserve power.

2.The Fn key and the right side arrow key, are pressed to increase Brightness.

You have a TFT LCD monitor screen. (Thin Film Transistor)
The LCD screen cannot be seen clearly without a Backlight.

The Backlight is a CCFL. Cold Cathode Fluorescent
tube. Resembles a small fluorescent tube used in residential, and commercial lighting.

The Backlight can go bad after time, and weaken.
If so, it will have to be replaced.

Sounds easy, it isn't.

The TFT LCD monitor screen is made up of layers. It's enclosed in a thin metal frame. Resembles a picture frame.

The frame is removed, after removing the LCD screen from the laptop's top cover.

The LCD screen transparent outside layers, are separated partially from the rest of the LCD screen.
The Backlight is removed out of the side.

This gives you an example of removing, and replacing an average Backlight,

Backlight is switched off and will not turn back onit flickers when fn f6 is pressed but goes back to dark

It sounds like it is the inverter board. It is probably not the backlight or the screen. Another symptom would be if you ever see a pinkish tint or hue on the screen. It can even work at times and die again. The inverter board is easy to repair, and you can definitely just buy one on ebay for probably $30 or less. Search google for instructions to replace inverter board on 5315 or even 5300.

Backlight wont stay on

The inverter board which provides the backlight power isn't working properly. This is a pretty common problem with LCD screens. The inverter is in the display, mounted under the display panel. It's a fairly simple job to replace the inverter. You have to remove the screws holding the front of the display to the back and separate the pieces. The inverter is held in place by a couple of screws and has a couple of cables connecting it to the main board and display panel. Unplug those, remove the inverter, mount the replacement and plug the cables back in. Then reassemble the display. A search on Google for "acer 5315 inverter" turned up several sources for the replacement part. Here is one. I don't know anything about this seller; I just picked it as an example.

Screen on Aspire 3000 is very very dim

Backlight or inverter failure sorry to say. No telling which without substitution. Backlights are mostly built into the top of the screen and are tricky to replace. Inverters are generally sited at the bottom of the screen under the facia panel. Look around ebay for replacements
