Question about Office Shredders

Fellowes DS-1 Clicking Sound

Hi,

I was shredding a large amount of papers and had a few jams but it went through. The the shredder stopped working. I thought it overheated and unplugged it and let cool down for a while. I plugged it back in hours later and now the shredder works in reverse but in the auto on position, it does not work and gets a clicking sound. Can you please help?

DS-1 - Used it for a big job -- intermittently shredding old files, but not on for mninutes at a time. The next time I went to use it, it would work in reverse but nothing would happen otherwise, even though the sensor light would go on. I had this shredder just over a year, so I'm not sure Fellowes will do anything about it, but considering how little I used it, I'm very, very disappointed and hate to have to send it to the landfill.

i had the same problem, it would reverse but not forward and the sensor light is still on
i let it rest for a month, and it starts to work again
i realize this machine has stress and mood, you need to comfort it, clean it dust it, before use. i know it sounds weird. at least it works for me

How do I get top off to clear Paper Jam on Fellowes PS-12Cs

FELLOWES SHREDDER
In case of a paper jam , which may occur if the shredder is pushed beyond its specified capabilities, press the control switch to the off [O] position and empty the basket if full. Then:
1) Press and hold control switch in reverse [R] position and attempt to back paper out of shredder.
2) If shredder jams in reverse mode, press control switch to automatic [I] position and attempt to continue shredding operation.
3) If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between reverse [R] and automatic [I] positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through shredder.
If you are unable to clear the jam using this method, turn off and unplug the shredder; remove the wastebasket from cabinet and carefully remove any paper extending below the cutting cylinders; empty the wastebasket; insert wastebasket and repeat jam clearing procedure.

Why is the fellowes blade still rotating even when there is no paper?

It is possible that a small shred of paper is lodged at the sensor underneath the cutting blade.
    • 1 Unplug the paper shredder. Empty the shreds from the collection bin. Pull as much stuck material as possible from the top and bottom of the shredder blades with pliers or use canned air and blow the edges of the blades.
    • 2 Place the paper shredder back on the collection bin base and plug the shredder back in. Rock the shredding direction back and forth between forward and reverse.
    • 3 Make two passes across the cutting blades while drizzling synthetic shredder oil. Switch the direction to forward to run continuously for one minute.
    • 4 Lower two sheets of clean paper into the shredder. The paper removes excess oil, metal fragments and debris from the cutting blades. Blast the blades with compressed air when you notice a build-up of small paper scraps that may cause a jam.

Shredded a few sheets of paper. clicked off. Have power at outlet. No damage to cord or connections. No auto reset of internal overload protection, amount of paper shredded far too few to trip...

Hi, make sure the cutters are not jammed with paper. To reset turn the unit to reverse for 2 seconds then auto then off. Allow to cool for 25 minutes then retry. Also make sure the base is locked in properly. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

OUR FELLOWES CROSS CUT SHREDDER WILL KEEP ON RUNNING AFTER THE PAPER HAS BEEN SHREDDED. ARE THERE SENSORS THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE COVERED IN PAPER DUST?

If you look into the slot you feed the paper into, you should see a two little bumps that are facing each other in the center of the slot. These are the sensors that tell the unit to turn on/off. You can try cleaning them with a paper towel or long q-tip. If this does not fix it, then the sensors will have to be replaced. Most Fellowes machines have a 3-year warranty, you can call Fellowes at 1-800-955-0959 to see if yours is under warranty.

there is a small micro switch in about the middle of the paper slot, make sure it is not jammed, it should move freely and make a small clicking sound with the power off.
