Question about HP Compaq nc6220 Notebook

Open Question

USB-device is not recorgnised

One of the USB devices is not recognised on my Compaq nc6220. This without having any external USB device connected to one of the 3 standard USB ports. Windows XP professional SP3 is installed.
rigth after startup, the balloon in the right lower corner starts up, and this repeats every 10 seconds. clicking the the balloon, the error window starts up, specifiying the location of the not recognized device in bold. (this window however remains white, and nothing is specified)
After half an hour to 45 minutes, the computer starts bieping. can this be so that there is a hardware / shortcircuit problem?

the fact that we have the same rather new software - damned sp3 - mkes me hope this is perhaps driver related. wishful thinking? :S

with me it's an external hard disk that is recognized on other computers

    'someone have a clue?

This is NOT for the novice. It requires a lot of time, effort, plus understanding. This just an example, but it least answers it can be done.

1 many times the the CD cant load as the files in the CD are corrupt or the CD is not read by the drive corectly...so get a new WinXP CD
2 try an external CD drive if your BIOS alows to boot from USB drive....(connect the external CD drive to the USB and make necessary changes to the BIOS boot seq in the BIOS screen...
BIOS screen can be enabled by pressing the F1, or F2 or the Del key as on as you start the PC
3 once in BIOS screen look for boot seq and change the boot drive to the foll
1st boot device - USB CD / DVD rom drive
2nd boot device - internal CD rom drive
and so on

if you can do the above then try the WinXP installation using the external CD rom drive....
else there is a little complicated method of using a pen drive thru USB (will discuss that later) provided your BIOS alows booting from USB

Hi! i got a mobile presario compaq presario

Hi,

What kind of device are you trying to connect. If it is a hign amp device like old external HDD, it could cause he issue. In such cased connect both the USB pins provided to facilitate more current flow.

Also check the status of USB from device management. No warning symbol should be displayed.

Please come abck and rate for my solution if it turned to be helpful for you.
Thnx :)

Touch pad driver.

Uninstall the driver from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the touch pad and reinstall the drive automatically. If this doesn't work, check the touch pad connection, they will sometimes work loose ar get a little dirt/corrosion build up. The connection is under the keyboard. At this point, if it's still not working, then it has failed and will need replaced.

Com1 stops and starts

Just a suggestion: Check the command set for the transmission device. Compare the known good set with the problem device. Set them to be identical. If you are using PC CARD adapters, check their settings. If you are using an external modem, check the AT commandset : http://www.computerhope.com/atcom.htm I don't think it's the Laptop Chipset. Also check BIOS.
