Question about Heating & Cooling

I have a UVB Lamp for my bearded dragon. I thought the lamp needed replacing which I have done. The lamp still does not work so I though maybe the philips S10 ecoclick starter maybe at fault. Do these have a life expectancy? Thanks

Hello ja-stead,
EVERYTHING has a life expectancy but that starter may or may not be your problem. If possible, can you take your light fixture to a local pet store to see if they will allow you to try the lamp with the old bulb and new bulb in order to determine if the starter is the problem? You may have some other issue like the switch or wiring to it that is causing the bulb to not illuminate. If you want to 'shotgun' the repair by swapping out components such as the starter, that will eventually lead you to the solution but you may be throwing good money after bad. I am sure that most pet stores will allow you to test it since if it turns out to be the fixture, they will get a sale out of it.. Give it a shot..
Regards,
Rick

I replaced my 915B403001 lamp and it is flashing lamp at me. Could I have done something wrong?

Maybe a bad lamp. Where did you get it? If a generic one it may not be compatible with your set even though they claim it is. Make sure you have one that is from factory or factory equivalent only. Low cost online lamps sometimes are big problem.

Fortunately, this model lamp is not too expensive.

I think my iguana has a broken arm. There is no reptile vet's in my area. I didn't know what to do

What part of the arm...most limbs heal by themselves and although the iguana may be slightly deformed for life they do fine ...as long as the proper diet and lighting is provided.
LIGHTING: You must provide a UVB specific lamp so the iguana can process the calcium in the diet to make bones strong.....no UVB lamp = weak and broken bones and deformities. Thats why they bask in the sun ...to get the UVB rays and process the calcium. Look up the disease called Metabolic Bone disease in reptile (MBD)

Go to the Green Iguana society to learn so much more ...care ...diet ... lighting.
Go to Mega Ray (Reptile UV) and order a proper lamp....100 watt SB (self ballast ) 120 volt or get a ZOO MED POWERSUN 100 watt -160 watt.
If your iguana already has signs of MBD they can be reversed with the proper diet and lighting. Don't become another statistic...research info about the proper care......and try to arrange some out door time in the sun ...early morning or late afternoon....20 minutes in the sun is equal to about 8 hrs under a man made lamp, so I have been told.

Good luck

What kind of lighting is needed for fire belly toads?

Fire belly toads should not be exposed to too much UVB light. The best way to control this is to use a fluorescent reptile lamp specifically designed for frog habitats that emit 3-6% UVB light. This bulb will need to be replaced every 6 months.

Dont have money need food pellets for my bearded dragon for free

You do have other options besides pellets. http://www.anapsid.org/bearded.html is a great source of information. My beardie eats crickets and fresh fruit and veggies (make sure fruits and veggies are listed as "safe" and chopped or cut into appropriate sized pieces. For mine, I shred the fruits and veggies in a food processor so that he can not be picky and just eat one or 2 of the different foods. If you use wild caught insects or use plants from your outside around your home, make sure you are not getting poisonous insects and/or plants and the they have not been exposed to pesticides, weed killers, some types of fertilizers, or any other harmful chemicals.

Replaced lamp, now no fan & hot plistic smell, (of course)

This model monitors the fans, should one not work the set should not even turn the lamp on, leaving only the timer LED flashing. Recheck your work but you have had other problems to begin with. Be sure the covers are reinstalled properly. Are you getting a Temp LED that is lighting? If so then the Temp sensor needs to be replaced.
