Try to boot it up in Safe Mode and see if you can use System Restore to restore your computer to a earlier time when it was working correctly. Turn the computer on and when it try to boot up keep on pressing F8 on your keyboard to force the computer into Boot Options.
Its definitely a hardware issue. U can try the following step before taking it to a tech.
Keep tapping F2 as soon as u press the power button to power up the computer. U will get a BIOS screen. Press F9 to reset to the default settings. Now press F10 to save the saettings and restart the computer.
Your computer may not be properly cooled, if it gets to hot it will shut off. One of the safety feature to make sure your computer does not melt.
Please check your temps with a desktop utility or through your bios.
To see the error message of your computer Right click on “My Computer”>Click “Advance” Tab”>Click on “Start-up and Recovery” and make sure the box that says “Automatically reboot” is unchecked.
Then you should be able to see what the error message is, write it down and google it.
This will give you a better idea on why your computer is shutting off.
Try starting the laptop in safe mode.
This is done by pressing F8 while the computer is starting. You will be presented with an option screen and should in the first instance choose safe mode. If the laptop boots you can then check the hardware for faults. If you are not getting past the initial bios boot screen it would be worthwhile downloading the latest bios firmware from the HP web site and installing this.
When you turn the laptop on hit f8 until the menu comes up, try use the last good known configuration. If that does not work tap f8 goto safe mode and then to system restore and restore it to an earlier time. Let me know if it works.
