Question about Heating & Cooling

Open Question

I have a Drayton Digistat RF1 with SCR thermostat for my central heating which is about three years old now. It has worked well up to now, but has developed a problem. The red continuous light (alarm) on the SCR keeps appearing. When the thermostat sends a signal the red light flashes and then goes out and the green either appears or doesn’t depending on the thermostat setting (and the motorised valve for my heating opens – if green). However, after less than a minute the green goes out and the red appears (continuous) again and the motorised valve closes. The red stays continuous until the thermostat transmits again and the cycle repeats. When I change the temp setting this initiates the transmitter and the cycle starts again – green for 50 secs, then revert to alarm and valve off. Manual override similarly gives green and red for less than a minute, then green goes out and the valve closes. I put new batteries in the RF1 thermostat and cleaned and checked the terminals, just in case – no difference. I have tried disconnecting the batteries and turning off the power to the receiver and then going through learn mode, however each time green light extinguishes after less than a minute and valve closes. I assume the SCR is caput and I need a new system, but just checking with you before going ahead. Drayton/Invensys customer support hasn't helped.

    On going through websites, I see that I can buy a new Digistat SCR separately (frequency OK at 433MHz), so hopefully that might be the solution. Anyone think I ought to go for a complte kit instead?

    When the problem was posted, it had been going on for a couple of weeks. Two days after I posted it, the receiver started working normally again. As far as I can see, I did nothing to change things. It has now worked perfectly for 5 days. Let's hope this continues. I am not sure what lesson anyone else might draw from this, except to hang on in and hope it comes right by itself.

    I have exactly the same problem. The thermostat shows room temp as 22c, however, I know that is isn't as I still have to wear 2 layers of clothing. My boiler is fine, hot water is hot. However, the digistat does not want to work when the weather is extremely cold! That's when you need it. Still hoping and praying that it will correct itself, otherwise give me a sysytem with wires, anytime.

Go online to www.cheapboilers.com who deal with this type of boiler. It would be very difficult to troubleshoot this boiler with the information supplied. I hope this will be of some help to you.
Sincerely, Shastalaker7
They should also be able to get you a manual for your thermostat.

How to programme rc2 british gas thermostat

The British Gas RC2 is a re-badged Drayton Digistat and I managed to find installation and operating manuals for that at www.gasapplianceguide.co.uk

Go to the section 'Lost your instructions' and look for Drayton 2F & 3F Digistats (earlier type) for a downloadable copy of the manuals.

Following them got my RC2 up and running though it was a bit fiddly at times.

Hope this helps.

Where can I download a user manual for a British gas WR1 thermostat? I've searched the net with no joy so far.

From what I've found - these are re-badged Drayton stats. I'm not familiar with the "BG" brand or the Drayton for that matter as I'm in the US - but they are apparently enjoy some popularity in the UK.

I found this on the Drayton stats. The BG WR1 is either the Drayton RF1, RF2 or RF3 (depending on configuration). All of them are pictured towards the bottom of the link provided previously. Links for each model's Installation, Operation and Quick Guide instruction manuals are next to each picture.

I hope this helps. Please rate my reply - thanks.

I need the operating manual for british gas wireless central heating thermostat control RC2, WR1, UP2.

These are Drayton Digistat controls re-badged. RC2 = Digistat2
WR1 = Digistat SCR
Cannot now find manual for Digistat2, but updated Digistat2+ can be found at http://www.draytoncontrols.co.uk/Digistat2RFProgrammableRoomThermostatWireless.aspx
The Commissioning Guide will show the SCR and now to reset it.

I have a digistat scr with a flashing red light and no heating there is nothing wrong with the batteries, this only occured after a poweer cut.

Try this first before condeming the unit.

1. Turn off the power supply to the Digistat SCR (receiver unit)
and leave for 5 seconds.
2. Turn on power to SCR unit and check red light is on.
3. Press override button No.2 and check the green light comes
on and boiler fires.
4. Press & hold down button No.1 (Keep depressed), then
press No.2 and keep depressed. {The Red LED light will flash
a couple of times and then it will go out}
5. Now release both the buttons – {the two LED lights should
come back on}
6. Get the Digistat+2RF/+3RF unit and stand two metres away
from the SCR unit with the Digistat+2RF/+3RF unit in your hand.
7. Remove the battery cover and fit the batteries.
8. The Red LED light on the SCR will now flash for approx. 7
seconds.
9. This confirms that the radio signal is being sent and
received.
10. The Digistat+2RF/+3RF and the SCR are now successfully
linked by a dedicated RF address.

Boiler Thermostat

In desperation, I trawled the internet and am pretty sure that these are manufactured by Drayton, either a Drayton Digistat +2 or Digistat +3

Try this page http://www.gasapplianceguide.co.uk/drayton_central_heating_controls.htm

Good Luck!
