SOURCE: Problems with the battery and the flash on my canon powershot A530

Know this is an old post but... Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mentioned that your batteries weren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

SOURCE: Canon powershot SD600 - flash doesn't work

It could be the sensor or a short in the flash wiring. You should take it into a camera shop and have them look at it. You could be covered under warranty if the camera is less than a year old.

SOURCE: Canon Powershot A550 flash will not work it just blinks on & off?

Hi
There are several things that could cause this.

1- Check the battery door indicator switch under the battery door and beside the memory card slot. Is the little black switch damaged or missing? Try pressing down gently using a pen it with the door open and then press the power button. Does it turn on?

2- The fuse has blown and needs to be replaced. Offhand I don't recall where it is on the SD750 PCB or how hard it is to solder on a new one (depends on if its tricky to get at or not). Good thing is fuses are really cheap.

3- Other power problem with the PCB due to corrosion or impact damage. The PCB or 'motherboard' of the camera will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: AA Battery Drain...just discovered a 3V battery in my camera

Usually the 3v battery holds the date and time in your camera. A lot of time with digital cameras you have to remove the batteries when there not in use for a long period of time to prevent the draining from happening.

Do you have regular AA batteries to see if the meter changes? That would be the best way to see it the camera is reporting the correct battery life.

When i put the new batery it will display "change the batery" and automatically power off the camera

This camera takes AA batteries. You must use good alkaline batteries or better, a set of high capacity NiMH recharegables. Zinc batteries just aren't up to the task.

New rechargeable batteries are supplied only partially charged. You need to charge them fully before use.

I just bought a canon powershot sx120 is today. I can't get the flash to work. I lift the flash and once in about 20 tried it goes off but other then that it won't even take photos if the flash is up.

If the flash is on AUTO it will only fire if it needs to, such as in dim lighting.

Try putting the flash to ON mode and see what it does.

More likely this is a power problem.
It needs fully charged batteries to fire off the flash very well. If it "won't even take photo's" as you said that usually means there is not enough battery power to charge up the flash, so the whole camera is stuck until it gets done charging the flash.

This issue could be from using Alkaline batteries, they are not very strong and can't keep up with the power needs of a camera.

So if you haven't yet -- try some fully charged NiMH rechargeable AA batteries and it will probably run fine.

Canon Powershot A470 - asks to 'change battery' every time it is turned on, then turns off immediately. This is so even when new, fully charged batteries (different brands, rechargeable, non-rechargeable)...

This happened with my Canon Powershot A470. I sent it back to he manufacturer and they said I was using the wrong batteries. Even though the camera is supplied with two alkaline batteries, they recommend using AA NimH rechargable batteries.

A580 wont switch on with new correctly inserted batteries

Check for battery current ratings, Canon cameras need AA batteries with current rating above 1200 mAh, I use Energizer rechargeable batteries for my Canon Powershot SX110 IS. The batteries last more if we use the flash option wisely.

CANON POWERSHOT A300

If it's a short, not much that you can do other than try to track down the short location with a voltmeter. But I do have doubts that a short is causing this. The A300 is a notoriously power hungry camera. It's the first digital Canon to use two AA batteries. It takes great pictures, but unfortunately Canon didn't spend much time focusing on battery efficiency in getting the new two battery design out the door. As a work-around, try taking pictures by shutting off the display (press the DISP button) and using the optical viewfinder. Also the camera works best with high power rechargeable NiMH batteries rated 2500mah or better. Very inexpensive NiMH batteries are generally weak, and if no rating is shown on the package or battery, should be avoided.

Batteries

Hey, the IXUS 850 IS doesn't take the standard AA batteries! It has a proprietary Li-ion battery pack that can be charged using the provided external battery charger unit.

Brand new Powershot S5 IS

Have you checked the batteries?

This camera should only use Alkaline AA batteries or NiMH batteries.

Are they flat or the wrong type

Also check that your memory card is installed properly and all covers are closed
