Power button changes channels and volume does not work
I have a Philips 27PT31. The power button on the TV changes the channel(the remote works fine for this) and the volume only works when I keep either of the volume buttons depressed although I have had the sound sputter on and off from time to time.

this is the same type of problem happening with other rca models and I know it is the EPROM CHIP but why this is failing is either because of design flaw , dirty enviroment that they were made in , to much voltage or current to the chip or too much of a draw from the chip causing it to fail . Or even a random frequency from the IR sensor or its circut I'm still investigating and testing.
leave the tv unplugged for at least 3 weeks durring this time resolder any solder that don't look good , I did this and it lasted for about 6 months(always plugged in to the wall) before it started doing it again. model # 27v412t
Well there is still a problem with the TV. I found that by unplugging the power cable that the digital channels worked. But, when I turned the TV on today the problem had returned, I had to take out the power cable again!
Actually it does make sense if the command processor in the TV set is bad. a way to test this would be to see if the TV will manually turn off and on. If it can, than the problem may be in the command processor IC, also called the input data IC. You will have to take this set to a TV repair shop, and have the look at that section.
