Question about Dell Vostro 1700 Notebook
I'm in desperate need of some assistance... I'm not very good with computers and was about to back up some precious photos I'd saved onto my desktop of my Dell Vostro 1700. Please help ;(
So this is what happens... I turn on my Dell Vistro 1700 as usual and it came up with a black screen which read Windows Error Recovery, it gave me an option of either Launch Startup Repair (recommended) or Start Windows Nornally. So then if I don't choose, it comes up with 'Startup Repair' box, which tells me that Startup Repair is checking my system for problems...' it also says to my relief that No changes will be made to my personal files or information... and it's searching and searching...
Now there's a blue screen which says a problem was detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to my computer.. it then basically says remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOs memory options such as caching or shadowing. I need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart my computer, press F8 to select Advance Startup options and then select safe mode... so I'm doing this and...
The black screen which read Windows Error Recovery, comes up again...

Don't choose safe mode.
If you have in the F8 options, a Recovery Console select that and run at the command prompt:
That will look for and repair disk errors.
Otherwise, look for and select Restore my computer, from this F8 menu.
Failing that you will need a copy of Vista or XP but if you have a 64bit OS like Vista64 you will need a copy of that.
