No much help I can give, when an hard drive beeps it has motor error or head error, the disk hardwar is faulty, and you are not able to recover anything from the disk.

A safe data recovery can only be performed by specialized companies on a facility called clean room, where dust is completely removed from the room using a vacuum.

The data recovery using this kind of equipment does not cost less than $800.

My Verbatim model #47512 1tb makes this beeping sound every time i connect it to my computer why?

That beeping signals a failure to communicate between the disk and the motherboard of the pc - the disk is defective. You have a slim chance of recovering what's on it by removing the actual disk from the external case and plugging it in the a desktop.

I have a 1 TB SimpleDrive external USB drive. The drive is now making a repeating, beeping noise, slow and methodical, and it is not recognized by either my MAC or my pc. WHat does the beep-beep-beep mean...

The hard disk inside it doesn't responds to the controller - hardware failure, the disk has failed.
Nothing can fix that, your unit is truly dead and you need a new one.

Bought a new LaCie drive; isn't recognized by mac or pc

Lacie Porsche drives in my experience or infamous for not having the most durable bridge boards. The bridge board is a chip that has a chipset on it which take the SATA or PATA connection and send it to the USB and or Firewire ports on the enclosure. If the drive is powered up, you should get a small red or orange light on the front. When connected to either mac or pc ( porsches are MS_DOS formatted out the box ), if it does not mount or does not appear in DISK UTILTY, then it is a high probability that the enclosure/bridge board has failed and the drive ( if not making grinding, buzzing, clicking or beeping sounds) will have to be extracted and placed into a more stable enclosure. Hope this helps.

Lacie Drive making awful noise!

Lacie D2 drives in my experience are infamous for not having the most durable bridge boards. The bridge board is a chip that has a chipset on it which take the SATA or PATA connection and send it to the USB and or Firewire ports on the enclosure. If the drive is powered up, you should get a blue light on the front. If the drive is grinding like you say, most likely the disk is physically damaged. If this is something you experience often, maybe you should consider power conditioners. if the drive is being moved around alot, you should be gentle with it in transit. Drive enclosures, look rugged and have flashy lights and metal enclosures, but should be treated like babies. Drives are feircely sensitive. They should be padded, kept away from magnets, and treated like laptops. Hope this helps.

If your hard drive is equiped with a buzzer ... you can try to find that and remove it to stop hering the beep. Let us see how to find buzzer... The buzzer is round in shape, but not globe-like. it works like a small speaker. Usually it looks like a button cell or something like a black bolt. Caution; your hard disk may not have a buzzer...when it shakes, something on the hard disk may be getting scratched continuesly. This makes a beeping sound. If this is the case better we ignore it. If we try to lubriacte this will cause the drive to malfuction.
