First create a smart album in itunes. set a condition for some keyword you will put in the name of new downloaded "film rolls". Then set this folder to sync with the phone. Each time you get prompted for a roll name include the conditional keyword. While itunes will erase the photos on the phone it will restore them through the sync'ed smart album.

I don't think that there is a solution... Apple appear to re-use the photo filenames at each syncro.
They should have used a combination of the date/time...
The only thing you can do is place your photos in a new directory each time you sync.

This is the first time this has ever occurred. I've been syncing w/o any problems w/both iPhone4 and iPad 2 since I got them. Why would this happen all of a sudden. Would Apple Support help?

How do I restore my sms messages on my iphone 3

Yes, you have chance.

As a matter of fact, every time you sync data between iPhone 3 and iTunes, all previous data will be automatically backed up by iTunes and stored as a .sqlitedb file, which will be updated along with the later sync continuously. But those backup files can't be viewed or taken out unless you use some software using special algorithms to extract.

Yes, just plug in the iPhone into the computer via USB that you have the iTunes on and you sync it by clicking "sync" and a message will pop up asking if you want to transfer your purchases to your library and at that point you click "yes".

Is there a way to recover deleted text messages from an iphone?

Unfortunately, there is no such a thing like trash bin on your iPhone so that you can restore your deleted text messages.

However, there is such an iPhone SMS recovery software that can help you recover deleted text messages on iPhone 5, 4s, 4 and 3gs. I used Tenorshare iTunes Data Recovery. It worked.

You can give it a shot! You can download it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/itunes-data-recovery.htm

My Apple iPhone 3GS shuts down the phone every time I hang up on the phone.

Try backing up the phone in iTunes and then recover it to clean OS and then restore backup and see if that fixes it.
