First, connect your iPod to your computer, slide hold switch on and off, and hold the Middle + Menu button for 30 seconds.

If that doesn't work, disconnect your iPod and slide switch on and off, and hold the Middle + Menu button for 90 seconds or less.

Unlock ipod

IPods are noted for their ease and portability, which is what makes them such a popular item. No matter how wonderful an electronic item is, there may come a time when it needs to be reset, and a 4th generation iPod is no exception.

There are situations when an iPod may freeze up such as when it is disconnected from the computer without being properly ejected in iTunes first.

A reset is not as extensive as a restore, so you will not lose any data that is already on the device.

Resetting the iPod is a very simple process that takes only seconds to complete.

Make sure the "Hold" switch is in the off position.

The "Hold" switch is on the top left of your iPod casing.

Move the "Hold" switch to "On" and then immediately back to "Off."

Press and hold the round button in the center of the click wheel and at the same time press and hold the "Play" button.

Hold both buttons down for 6 to 10 seconds or until the "Apple" logo appears on the screen.

Stop holding the center button and the "Play" button. Your iPod Nano 4th generation has now been reset.

hope this helps

Cannot get ipod nano 4th generation to turn off

To turn off the iPod Nano
Press and hold play/pause button.

If it's not working and if you doubt something is wrong, a simple reset could solve the problem.

For resetting the iPod Nano

Slide the Hold switch to HOLD and back again. Press the Menu and Center buttons at the same time for about 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Just purchased an ipod nano...how do I turn off the external speaker? even when I plug in the headphones, the external speaker stays on

Flick the button/switch on the top of the nano on and off 6 times leaving the orange bit not showing.

Now hold down the menu button and the middle button for 15 seconds until an apple2_bing.gif icon appears. SORTED!

now the speaker turns off when you plug the headphones in plus rest assured it doesn't reset the ipod and remove your songs.

I plugged in my i pod and came back a hour later and the screen was black and was frozen and none of the buttons would work

you will need to reset your ipod this will not delete songs. 1 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (slide it to HOLD and then back again).
2 Press and hold Menu and the Center button for at least 6 seconds, until the
Apple logo appears.
If iPod nano won’t turn on or respond
â Make sure the Hold switch isn’t set to HOLD.
â The iPod nano battery might need to be recharged. Connect iPod nano to your
computer or to an Apple USB Power Adapter and let the battery recharge. Look for
the lightning bolt icon on the iPod nano screen to verify that iPod nano is receiving
a charge.
To charge the battery, connect iPod nano to a USB 2.0 port on your computer.
