Question about Radio Communications

1 Answer

Searching for a product to use on a cruise

We are interested in purchasing a pair of two-way radios/walkie-talkies for when we cruise by ourselves or with our grandchildren or even family and friends. We have heard that many sets do not work on cruise ships due to the steel walls, etc. Was wondering if you had any suggestions on models that have a great success rate being used on cruise ships. Would be very interested in your manufacturer, model number and approximate cost range. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Our next cruise is coming up in December, so time is of the essence. Thank you so much! harryjones@comcast.net

I never saw a response for this question. My family is going on a cruise in March and we would like to purchase two way radios. Any recommendations for taking which two way radios on a cruise. Thanks.

I have k7gfv700 Motorola walkie talkies w/ charger. The charge seems to work, but the lighs one the charge are red and the talkie do not charge. Do I need new batteries and where can I purchase the

You might try http://wirelesspro.com, we have found them to carry most TalkAbout accessories and batteries. Before ordering battery packs, you might try switching your existing good battery to the other radio and see if it solves the problem. This would assure you that it is indeed a battery problem.

Two sets of Motorola Walki Talki radios will not communicate.

In addition to the channel and privacy codes, some Motorola two-way radios have a feature called Eavesdrop Reducer where you have 3 scramble settings available; perhaps you have this set on one of sets of radios but not the other. It should be something like that because otherwise there is no reason that by setting the radios to the same channel and privacy code they wouldn't be able to send/receive to each other.

We have Motorola T4500 walkie talkies. One of the units keep searching and has a z in the upper right hand corner. How do I turn that off?

The Z means the radio is scanning some or all of the channels that have been programmed into it. One of the buttons on the radio should stop the scanning. The button is usually the same one that starts the scanning, and pushing it a second time will stop the operation.

One walkie talkie will not stop searching for a channel and there is a Z on the screen can not find the manual

The "Z" is the scan emblem. If you repost a question telling us the model of radio, we may be able to locate a manual for you.

Best regards.

I am trying to pair my motorola walkie talies

Here is a link to the user guide: http://www.motorola.com/mdirect/manuals/SX700_userguide.pdf

You will need to program the frequency, code and Qt filter (if any) to match. For basic operation set the frequency and then set the code and Qt filter (if any) to off (zero).

Best regards.

If you are talking about FRS radios, the answer would be yes. If you are talking about business radios, it depends on how they were programmed. Business radios have many frequencies available.
