Remote will scroll up and down, can select menu options, but it will not allow you to select your choice, or play, forward, or rewind.

Besides replacing the batteries, have you tried using a universal remote to see if that works properly? If the4 universal works properly but the original doesn't try cleaning the remote the best you can. Also, are you trying this with regular dvd disks prdivx files on a disk. You could also try cleaning the ir port real good.

Do you have a multi-brand universal remote? You can programme it to control the RCA and see if those functions work from the other remote. If they do then the RCA remote has gone bad. If not then the player's remote receiver has gone south.
