Basic diagnostics when you experience display problems

Display is black?
Does the external vga output works?
Yes >> only your display assembly is defect
No >> your mainboard is defect

Mostly it results in the replacement of the complete mainboard.
Last things you can trie is flash a new bios version using the the external output if that works.

Instal ATI driver and utility, choose advanced mode in it, choose power, choose switchable graphics method,
i chose manually and not application needs based, Apply & close, on the desktop choose right click and chose configure switchable graphics. Click on high performance GPU (radeon) or Power sawing GPU (Intel HD)

Hp pavillion hdmi output was working fine and not the tv is dark. It shows a picture when booting up but once booted, the tv goes blank. Can you offer any solutions?

I had the same problem. The first time I used the HDMI port, it showed up perfectly on my TV.

But, next day I get a blank screen. When I rebooted the laptop it would show the windows splash screen and go blank.

I won't tell you how many things I tried that didn't work.

What you have to do is stupidly simple. Right click on the ATI logo in the systray, and then left click on catalyst control center. Run the basic wizard. I'm not sure which screen it is on but choose "clone". Suddenly, a miracle happens, and it works.

I don't know what kind of genius decided to make a second display not work at all unless you ran a wizard. But thats what I did to fix it.

Acer Aspire 5050 screen is blank

Hi, if it works with an external monitor it's more likely an LCD problem. When you push the power button, noting comes up on the main LCD screen? not even the Acer logo etc.?
Did you set your video card to use an external monitor and disabled the primary LCD? If so, you need to go to display settings, advanced and go to ATI Display and make sure that the notebook monitor is on.

Some water got in to the screen and maybe some of the boards in the computer. It eventualy caused damage. The fix is to try the screen, connector and ribbon assemblies, and the display daughter board if there is a daughter board in your model. It is also possible that the mother board has a fault.

This type of fault can end up being expensive to service.
