97' Honda Accord is leaking oil around where the oil filter is located. there is no extra gasket there.

I have replaced the oil filter 3 times, and leak is still there. I believe its the oil filter nipple, but not 100% sure. I need this car back on the road ASAP though. The dealer said it would be about $150.00 to replace. (thats alot considering when you have to do an oil change your right there at it anyways.) The car did sit for a while, I replaced some other parts (head etc.) and didn't see anything for a while, then I noticed the new oil leak. Any help would be great! Thanks!!

Only the right technician with correct part number for the oil filter may help. This because we can not see the problem. You need the right eyes for the problem. Anyway, maybe the issue comes from the upper part of the motor and the oil drop just falls from the filter. Check hoses to and from the oil pump.

Above the oil filter is the oil-pressure switch for the light in the cluster. That's a sorta-common source of leaking. Oil leaks directly through the defective switch, coming out around the rubber boot where the wire attaches. You didn't state what size engine you have so I will send you a link to both engines that is listed for the 97 model. SOURCE: Oil Leak

Take the car to a car wash and power wash the engine. Do this ONLY with a cold engine. And be prepared to have problems with it starting as water get's into the electrical components. Take some WD-40 with you to spray inside distributor caps, on spark wiring, etc. to get the engine running again.

Then check the engine weekly to see where the oil is coming from.

SOURCE: 1996 Honda Accord 2.7L/V6 oil leak near oil filter/oil switch

my car was doing the exact same thing and i spent about 18 hrs total trying to figure out. if you remove the oil filter, you will notice that the "bracket" that the oil filter attaches to is removable. remove the ENTIRE oil filter assembly. there is a bolt almost behind the crank pulley, its tricky to get to but you can get to it with a 1/4 in drive, swivel, and extension, i do believe it was a 10-12 mm socket (MUST BE ^POINT SHORT WELL) the top left bolt on the assembly you will notice that you can not get out. that is fine, take the rest of the bolts out and let the assembly hang from that bolt, BUT the bolt must me loosend all of the way to achive play in it. take a small screw driver and "break" the seal on the assembly. you will notice 2 holes. around those two holes is a single gasket. even the smallest crack will aloow oil to drip. my car was using about a gallon of oil every ten miles, so you can imagine how much oil i when through, replace the gasket. You can not get the rubber gasket ANYWHERE except a honda dealer. replace. put it together and you all set.

BASIC STEPS: RAISE PASSENGER SIDE.
REMOVE TIRE
REMOVE OIL FILTER
REMOVER ASSEMBLY
REMOVE GASKET
AND REPEAT BACKWARDS FOR INSTALLATION

SOURCE: Need to remove oil filter housing - oil leaking

This is not an easy repair in your driveway, but can be done. 1st thing, have you checked to see if the oil filter is the issue or is it the drain plug? If its the oil filter housing gasket, you will need to remove the filter. The housing is held in place by the threaded bolt assy that the filter screws onto. You will need to remove that bolt, remove the coolant hoses. Clean the engine block surfaces, for the new gasket to mate to, clean the cooling housing surfaces, install the bolt through the housing, and install the gasket onto it. Then install the bolt/housing into the block and tighten the bolt. Install the coolant hoses, oil filter. Fill the cooling system with the coolant that you removed. Fill the engine with oil, start and check for leaks.

Where is the leak coming from on my 1995 honda accord lx

oil leaks around the filter generally mean that the oil filter is too tight and the gasket is damaged , filter installed on a dry gasket, -damaging the gasket, lip of the filter is faulty--manufacturing problem, the old gasket for the filter was not removed before fitting a new filter--- gasket squeezing out
remove the filter, best replace with a new filter, remove any old gasket stuck to the housing, put a thin film of oil on the new gasket and screw up to touch then 1/4 turn ( fitting instructions on the box or filter)
do not over tighten

Just bought a used 1996 Honda Accord 4dr 6cyl and it has a major oil problem. when not even on it would leak oil. the car ran out of 5 qts of oil in a 50 mile drive. noticed the oil filter was 1/2 inch...

Yes there is. if it leaks, find out where. You may have engine damage from running the car out of oil. You say it leaks from the oil pump, same as before? was the oil pump replaced? Sounds like a pressure fed leak, so it should be easy to find.

Oil around spark plugs on 1992 honda accord

Yes the oil can cause the car to lose spark, the oil leak could be caused by the valve cover gaskets around the spark openings, but 9 times out of 10 it is the spark plug tube "O" rings. The top of the valve train comes off of the head, the "O" rings are between the two halves, that will fix the oil leak.

Oil leaks from the oil filter adapter

If it is not the suggested gasket that is leaking then it is the oil pressure switch located exactly above the oil filter adapter. The black plastic housing could have developed a crack and oil will ooze downward and drip off the bottom of the adapter. I had this problem and changing the oil pressure switch took care of it.

Oil leaking from some sort of plug above the oil filter

If the leak is coming directly from above the oil filter it is more than likely the oil pressure switch is leaking. The seal around the Oil pressure switch could have gone bad and now it is leaking.

The oil pressure switch is located right above the the oil filter and above the cooling system cross pipe.

Oil leak around oil filter

Are you positive the leak is coming from the filter?
It could be coming from above it, perhaps the valve cover which is common. Take a look.
Post what engine you have also, the more info offered the better chance someone can help with a problem.
