No disc when disc is inside?

Hi, my grandpa's daewoo dvd player seems to be unable to read discs, no matter what dvd I put in it, it spends about 2 minutes "Loading..." then it says "No Disc" I'm not sure what the problem might be I tried spraying the inside with computer duster but it had no effect.

Re: No disc when disc is inside?

If the disk does not spin up, then it is the motor, which has a high fail rate, and can be replaced easily. It is available from MAT Electronics and others.

Re: No disc when disc is inside?

Open the cover of the unit, but be sure that it is unplugged. try cleaning the lens with a soft dry cotton swab. donot put any cleaning liquid on it. just dry cotton swab. also put the nozzle of the duster on the lower part of the lens assembly to remove the accumulated dust. if its still doesnt work have it check by a qualified service technician. good luck!

Disc error

It means either the optical pickup trying to read the disc is dirty or bad.

If bad--it may not be cost effective to repair that unit.

Incorrect disc

The first thing i would suggest you to do is a hard reset by unpluging the the player for 30min and then try again.

If this does not solve your problem then please see if the player tries to read the disc.
Load a disc and listen.Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track. Please refer to the image below.

If the problem still persists then you will have to get it repaired and thats the only solution..

It seems that optical laser block gets fail to read data on disc and possible cause could be dirty/ clogged lens or optical laser block failure.
Put lens cleaning disc in unit to clean optical lens and check DVD playback, if that does not solve the issue then optical laser block would be defective and requires replacement that would cost approx new player price.
Hope these info will help.

You could try cleaning the laser using a laser cleaning disk. Most of the time when it cant read a disk its just because the laser is dirty. If that doesn't work it could just be a faulty laser

Daewoo DVDS130 player says 'No Disc' after it has already loaded

The drive is not reading the disk. This is either caused by a fault in the laser/lens/drive itself or caused by dirt in the drive effecting the lens.

There is a Laser cleaning DVD that you can purchase from any audio shop - its not expensive and useful to have around anyway. I would recommend you try one of these and you may find that it will resolve the problem as a simple and quick fix.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.

No matter what DVD we put in, the player stays on "READ"

either the disc you inserted hasn't got a menu. the only thing DVD's do this is because there is no Menu provided in the DVD DISC. In the other case, where it remains "read" the disc might not be clean, scratched, dusty or simply incompatible with your DVD Player. Always clean discs before and after playing them in your DVD Player. Hope this helps, good luck!
