SOURCE: bad overload relay

Do not go with the 3 in 1 start kit ! This is only a temporary " fix " . The part number you need , is 61006186 . This is the direct replacement , for the overload / relay , on your refrig .

What rewiring is needed to replace the overload relay with a universal kit, on an upright freezer? Kelvinator model VA16 W. There are two relays that connect to the compressor that need to be replaced....

The two pieces are Relay and Overload.

If you are using a supco relay/overload combination that has three wires with terminals and two wires with stripped ends the wiring is as such.

Red-Run Terminal, White-Start Terminal, Black-Common Terminal (Overload was wired to this)

Stripped wires are connected to line cord along with condenser fan wires.

Have upright Frigidaire freezer, about 2 yrs old, that quit running. Local repair guy replaced part with "3 n/1 Start" solid state relay overload capacitor combination. Worked great for 2 weeks then...

Good day,
That's a no-no. Your compressor carries a 5 year warranty from the factory. However, if anything is altered on it the warranty is voided. You've got an issue with this guy.

My refridgerater went out Saturday and now my freezer went out last night. what do you think it would be?

The overload relays at the side of the compressor have gone bad. Not an expensive repair and not hard to do. Replace the overloads and you're back in business.

Refrigerator and freezer will not cool

Compressor is cutting on/off on overload, some are located on the side of the compressor, some inside the compressor. My advice is to install a start kit on the compressor. It is a combination overload/start relay/capacitor.You can get these at an appliance repair shop, just follow the instructions.Hope this helps. If I can be more help, write. No cooling, compressor comes on and shuts off quickly

All refrigerators compresors have a relay and a overload thermal protector ,both are located on the side of the compresor behind a black plastic cover atached to the compresor with a metal clip(or just the cover snaps in on the compresor).Unplugged the fridge ,pullout the cover and you'll see the relay and the overload replaced them (no more than $30).If this doesn't solve the problem you have a bad compresor, wich is a much more expensive job.

heres a part number for the overload relay assy 5304468029.. its mounted on the side of compressor. its a tricky one, usually my experience has been the noise comes from a bad compressor( which you should have 5 year full warr from manufacture). sometimes the overload relay does go bad preventing compressor from starting, the n ew compressor will come with a new overload relay
