In My Computer / Properties it says my AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 is only running at 803 Mhz instead of the 1.6 Mhz it's suppose to. Device Manager says both are working properly. ??

DISKETTE DRIVE 0 SEEK FAILURE

Make sure everything is hooked up correctly did you install the disc that came with this first. If not undo the device and install the software that came with it. Also you can disconnect the device completely, then power the computer completely down. Push the power button 1-2 seconds. You will not see the device because it is unhooked, by doing this you can start fresh and re-install the device again with power completely off, then restart computer again check in the device manager to see if it loaded this time. Computer fan pulses

It's supposed to pulse according to cpu temp. Might try cleaning it out, especially the front. If it continues, the motherboard is going bad.

I want to access NUMBER inputs from 'switches' through the USB port into a QBASIC program that I wrote. Pressing a switch to simulate #1 instead of pressing the #1 key on the keyboard.

You could program a Teensy USB board to send the numbers. It is a great little device because the computer sees it as a human interface device such as a keyboard so sending a 1 from the Teensy would be the same as from a keyboard and the switches could be wired to the device to accomplish this. http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/index.html

These new graphics cards pull a lot of power from the power supply. I know you didn't start off having this issue but given the symptoms you are experiencing I'd take a closer look at the power supply and perhaps replace it with a 650 watt or better.

Processor update..

The problem with Store bought PCs is that there is no way to tell how fast a proccessor you can safely put into one before it becomes overclocking, but in theory your exact motherboard should support an AMD Athlon X2 5800+ 1000 Mhz FSB. Now if your willing to take a risk, you could buy a 6400+ but be warned, the computer may not recognize it, or it may just underclock the proccessor, if the processor supports 800 Mhz FSB. I said the 1000 Mhz FSB because it can underclock to that speed, and also because they no longer offer 800 Mhz flavors at the sites i order from. Hope that helps.
