Hp dv9000 will not shut down or burna disc correctly

I have an HP dv9208nr. yesterday i began having problems with burning cds. or dvds. it will run through most of the process and get stuck at the very end or throw an error message. happened while trying to burn through norton backup, several times while tying to use roxio, and once while going straight through the windows drag n drop. i tried shutting the computer down. didn't work. i hit the shutdown button 2 hours ago and the computer is still on the "logging off" screen. the hard drive light keeps blinking but it will not shut down. i pulled the battery once and let it sit but it still won't fix. i'm running 32 bit vista. can anyone please help

What error message is being 'thrown'?
If your system boots and runs take a look at the "Event Logs" on your system. They can reveal a lot of information.

Have you added any new software to your system? Have you had any "Automatic Updates"downloaded and installed? WIN XP SP3 has been known to cause a few problems. Try un-installing WIN XP SP3 and see if this helps.

Do you have a virus program and an anti-spyware program? If you do update them and run them. Let me know what happens. Binary Bob

My HP dv9208nr laptop screen is black after I power it on.

Hi:
I am sorry to tell you that this series of HP laptops has a known problem with the video chip on the motherboard. There are thousands of complaints to HP about the DV9000 seriies laptop, and yours has the same sympoms that others have reported. HP extended the warranty on some, but most people lost their shirts. There are a few people who have had mixed success in repairing the motherboards, but often they have to get replaced. If you did a google search on yor laptop problem, you will find lots of info.
The bottom line is that your laptop is expensive to fix, and it is a known problem!

Hp laptop dv9208nr keeps trying to reboot but never fully starts

goto hp.com, click on drivers and downloads section, when on the downloads page, look on the right hand side, there will be a link to see if your PC qualifies for free repair by HP, the dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 series laptops are having video problems and wireless card problems, and your PC may be one of the affected models, if so there is info provided to start the repair process, hope this helps, if so please give an appropriate rating. Thanks

HP Pavillion dv6121tx 15.4" notebook problem with DVD

Hi

It sounds like a hardware fault on the drive itself. The laser and focussing mechanisms are different for CDs and DVDs. The fact that the drive can read DVDs fine suggests that the laser and lenses can no longer focus correctly to deal with CDs.

Replacement of the drive would be the only fix, although you might find it a lot easier to buy an external USB DVD drive.

LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM T10N ATA DRIVE

Various issues can cause drives to occasionally balk at writing optical discs. These run the gamut of physical, hardware, and software troubles.

Inappropriate or dirty media may be to blame. Make sure to match the type of recordable disc to the drive, and check each disc for fingerprints or other contaminants. If a disc is dirty, wipe it with a clean, soft cloth in a straight line from the center hole outward. Try a quality optical drive cleaning disc if you suspect dust contamination on the drive’s laser lens.

Some discs don’t perform well with certain drives, even within their rated speeds. Try recording at a slower speed and then with a different brand of disc. Also, on PCs, verify that the temporary file storage area on the hard drive used by the burning software has enough free, defragmented space. Allocate at least 5GB for a DVD (9GB for a double-layer [DL] disc) and about 1GB for CD burning.
