Fan like noise may be a fan or the color wheel---color wheel spins at high speed(lamp faces it) and when failing you will have a high pitched or fan like sound---hard failure and you will hear a grinding sound.

if possible try to isolate which fan it is as set should have more than one fan.===lamp fan is usually the largest one and mounted near the lamp===runs until temperature on lamp drops to a specific level and then shuts off (three minutes on average)

SOURCE: Cooling fan motor is making loud humming noise

You will have to pull out the light engine. That will consist of 4 or more screws and disconnecting some plugs. The the whole unit slides out where you can get to the fan housing.

Unless you're mechanically inclined, you should not try it as you could damage the assembly.

I don't know the part number off hand and some of those have newer part numbers as replacement for the original. Just do a google search to come up with a part number.

Color wheel. Not replacable on this set. Removing light engine and having rebuilt is only solution. Part no longer available.

SOURCE: my Toshiba DLP makes a humming noise. Replaced the

Hi,
Yes, the problem is the color wheel. Those are not sold by toshiba alone. You have to buy the light engine from them (a lot of $$$)
I found color wheel for sale on eBay. Just type "toshiba color wheel” and you will see them there. They are little wider then the original buy fit perfect and seem to last much longer too.

maxie99,

Fan is available at https://www.encompassparts.com/webwiz/wwiz.asp?wwizmstr=WEB.SEE&partnumber=6475656&smodel=52HM95 for about $80.00. Replacement should be as simple as unplugging the fan cord and removing a couple screws to remove. Do the work with the unit unplugged from the wall. Reverse the procedure to install the new unit.

Thanks for using FixYa and the great rating.

Got a new lamp tv works great but wen I turn it off it has a very quiet hum is this normal also wen I turn it off the.red.light blonks green for a while befor eventualy going away what dose this mean...

Hello; The noise when turning set off is likely the fan that cools the lamp down gradually. The lamp can crack if the fan does not work. Dust in the fan can also add to the noise. When the set is turned on, the microcomputer watches the lamp come up to full brightness and shows this with the LED colors. All lamps containing mercury take time to get up to full brightness. This also applies to mercury compact florescent lamps, yard lights, and even neon signs that contain mercury.

I've got a Toshiba 52HM95 that's several years old. It's been making a grinding noise for a while. A few months ago I took the back off to investigate. The problem went away. But, now it's back. I have a...

The grinding noise sounds like it could be the fan blade hitting the housing. Have your verified that it is the fan that is making the noise? Does the fan feel loose or rub the housing when turned? Well you have already purchased another fan and have gone this far so I say continue dis-assembly if it is the fan. If you were looking to get a new TV then get one but don't trash this one. If you repair it you could sell it or give it to a friend/family member. A new 52in HDTV is not that cheap.

That fan is supposed to run.It cools the lamp after you have turned the TV off. It should eventually turn off.

High pitch motor like noise. Not from fans.

Possibly the color wheel bearings are starting to go bad
