my printer just keeps saying Paper Jam even when there is none. I have searched and searched. It is not even pulling paper through. I cannot clear it even after I take the back cover off and check and put it back on. It still says Paper Jam. Not sure what is happening. But quite frustrated as I need to get some things printed in the next couple days. Can anyone help me???

same problem printer screeching and the paper jam is cleared.

  • yngar10 Jan 07, 2009

I have the same problem, there is nothing in there to jam. Interesting that so many are having this problem in the past month. Maybe a sensor/little plastic switch is stuck in the 'paper jam' position. Should we expect a $70 all-in-one to last more than a year? It's already getting hard to find the ink for this printer. I'm really not into disposable electronic devices. My HP 710 (circa 1998) still works great.

had a jam. it tore. finally cleared it.followed manual instructions. nada.
unplugged, pulled back off, reset, tried to print.
nada. did this 6 more times. nana.
screeching sounds as described by another.
considered throwing printer. reconsidered when I realized i had a room full of 2nd graders.
    will try solutions on monday.
    here's hoping.
this printer is less than a year old....

The screeching sound is caused when the print head reaches the end of its travel and hits the paper jam which you cannot see using the suggested jam-clearing steps. So

1. unplug the printer
2. lift the cover so the blue support on the left holds the cover up
3. plug in the printer, watch the printer head move
4. after it stops, gently move the printer head toward the middle and look at the far ends of travel. you should find the cause(s) of the jam up against the sides of the printer. remove with needle-nose pliers.
5. replace cover, plug in the machine. it will go through a cleaning or 2, but it should be ready to go after that

If paper is jammed, a Paper jam message will appear on the control panel display.

Follow these steps to clear the jam:

  1. Gently pull any jammed paper out of the output tray or sheet feeder.

  2. If the paper is stuck inside, turn off the Epson Stylus CX.

  3. Open the scanner, remove the jammed paper and torn pieces, close the scanner, and turn the Epson Stylus CX back on.

alert_note.gif Note: Be sure to check the far left of the carriage area when checking for jammed paper. Paper that is jammed there may be hidden from view.
If paper jams inside the Automatic Document Feeder, clear the jam as follows:

  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover and remove any jammed paper.

Paper Jam when it is not jammed. Can't print.

It could be an issue with the printer, make sure that there is no paper jam or check for any tiny bits of paper is side the printer, that could cause the issue.
However try reseting the printer
Follow the below steps to reset the printer;
Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on and wait for 20 seconds.

2. Then, press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.
This should fix the issue.

I HAVE A HP OFFICEJET J6480 ALL IN ONE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT SAYS I HAVE A PAPER JAM. I HAVE CLEARED ANY JAM, BUT IT WON'T CLEAR OUT

Hp printer paper jam error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

Message reads: the paper is jammed clear the paper and press OK

Hi,
Even if a small piece of paper stuck inside the printer you ll get this msg.  So what you have to do is if you have a Air blower or vaccum cleaner blow air inside the printer,  If any piece of paper is stuck inside it will come out and you won't get that msg again.  Try this and sure it will work...!

Screeching sound

If you haven't already done so, look into the printer roller areas, and look for a piece of paper stuck somewhere, or maybe a paperclip or other foreign object which has found it's way into the mechanicals. Also, check the printhead assembly for free movement.
