Side by side refrigerator/freezer

I came home after being gone for about 36 hrs. to find thick black and red fluids draining from under my refrigerator and all the food in the freezer thawed. Before I left I had noticed that the refrigerator was making a clicking noise, but had no time to deal with it at that time.

You're compressor is not restarting.  It might be defective or the start cap or start relay is bad.

On the freezer side their keeps being water frozen in bottom

The drain to it is stopped up or the heat strip that melts the ice has gone bad. When working right, the water should drain out. The water goes into a pan under the freezer and evaporates.

Fridge and freezer at 50 degrees with settings on max cold. I can hear compressor cycling and all power is on. Suggestions?

Your Refrig/freezer should be set as follows:

Refrigerators: 36 to 40 degrees. Ideal temp is 37 Fahrenheit. Note: A temp above 42 degrees promotes bacteria.

Freezer: temp should be -5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideal temp is 0 degrees.

Then check the door seals around the edges to see if any splits, tears or cracks have messed up the seal. This will cause your compressor to constantly run as it's trying to cool off the warm house is being sucked into the freezer (or Refrig). A sure sign the door seals are damaged is lots of ice in the freezer door area or water pooling in the bottom area of the refrigerator.

Wait about 4 hrs after you readjusted the Refrigerator/Freezer settings so everything settles down. If you still have problems then the coolant may need to be serviced (topped off) or the motor serviced/checked.

Don't procrastinate because a water heater and Refrig/freezer are the 2 largest energy users in your home- they run 24 hrs a day.

Hope this helps...

Water doesn't drain

I assume you mean from the freezer. Condensate drain is clogged. The drain is at the back, bottom inside the freezer and is probably frozen.

My GE Side by Side refrigerator is leaking water inside the freezer section. I discovered a 1/2 inch thick sheet of ice on the bottom of the freezer section. I took a cover off the back about half way down...

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Defrost drain freezing over , ice cream hard as a rock , freezer set to highest temp, cleared drain 3 times and made sure water is running to drain pan

Find a piece of solid uninsulated aluminum or copper ( ground wire , ok ) about 14-16 guage thick , and insert one end as far into the drain as possible , without force . Wrap the other end around the black tube ( defrost heater ) , just above the drain hole , about 2 turns . When the heater comes on , this heat will transfer to the wire , keeping the drain hole from freezing up , and letting the water go thru and into the drain pan under the refrig .

The freezer auto defrost puts a lot of water into the bottom of the freezer which in turn just freezes again. Then the next time it dumps more water there and it runs out the door.

There should be a drain hole or line allowing it to drain into a drip pan under the unit. You need to unplug the unit, melt or chip the ice out, make sure the drain is not plugged ( it could be plugged under the freezer.
