Question about Compaq Presario M2000 Notebook
I have an older ibm laptop computer and when i turn it on all these different colored lines come on the screen, but when it is almost closed all the way everything looks as it should be what is the problem?
This is due to the cable from the main board to the display. It comes up from the main board through one of the hinge covers, and the repeated flexing from many times opening and closing the lid causes the wires to break. As you say you've found out, in certain positions the wires make contact and the display works normally.
It might be possible to find a replacement cable, but the chances aren't great. For portable use you're out of luck, but you can connect an external monitor when you're at home.
Wish I could give more hope, but this cable problem was a always a pain when I was doing computer repairs for a living. You'd think manufacturers would have seen it coming and made a better design, or at least make replacement cables easy to come by.
