You can only change a DVD book type if you are using DVD+R. You can't change a book type on DVD-R. You are probably using -R, which should be just fine. I personally prefer -R, but both types work pretty well.

If you are burning video to +R disks you should be able to change the book type to DVD ROM in one of the option boxes.

What burning software are you using? Try the latest version of imgburn, it's great and free.

How can I find the driver to the DVD-player on a Acer ASPIRE M5800 with a dual-layer DVD burner ?

You shouldn't need a driver it's just generic DVD optical drive. Are you able to read any discs? Is the issue with burning or watching DVD videos?

Having burned a dvd i try to play it in my dvd player but the dvd freezes half way through so i try it in the ps3 and does the same around the same spot on the dvd

If it is a dual layer DVD (8.4GB), you are probably freezing at the layer break. This is the place on the DVD where the burner shifts the burn from the first layer to the second layer of the DVD. There is a lot of this problem. It is due in part to variables in DVD burners and readers, but mostly in the quality of the media being burned. Dual layer DVD media is very finicky and I personally avoid it if at all possible. I have had too many issue of incompatibility of media to burners and as a result burned too many coasters for my liking. Obviously, if the media is going to give the burners issues, what do you suppose will happen when trying to use it in a player? If you must burn dual-layer DVD media, you are best to buy the best. It costs more, but the headaches are not worth the apparent savings. I have had luck with the VERBATIM Dual Layer Media, but have been told that there are occasionally issues here too, depending upon where the media was produced. There is a great deal of information on the wen you can persue on this,,,a simple Google on best Dual-Layer DVD media will open Pandora box!

Hp dual layer dvd burner with light scribe doesnt recognize the dual layer disc as dual layer

You may have to install some kind of DVD burner software such as Nero burning ROM to burn dual layer DVDs. the default windows CD burner does not recognize dual layer disks. You can also use this free software for burning dual layer disks

Acts like a Player/CD burner

I have an IDE Memorex DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner (52x32x16) that has burned well over 300 cd/dvd' sense 2004 when I bought it. In 2006 or 7, an update was given to it via memorex sight - I was told to keep a copy of the dn ld, for it can't be undone and became "IDE Memorex DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner (523216)AJ___NWK____\5&265FB54&0&000" MODEL - I got it on sale from Fry's Elec. - It seems that it was indeed a 1 way ticket - and it is time to retire the old work horse anyway - Quite happy with your products and getting me another. PS - I don't think the upgrade did any justus

Hi : I have a HP Pavillion a1218n (P4) computer that is about three years old. I would like to burn data to 8.5 GB Dual Layer - Single sided DVD storage media disks. My CD/DVD burner : burns, flip, burn...

Greetings,
Your dvd drive is not capable of burning a dual layer disc. You need to have a burner that is capable of sending the laser through to the second layer of the disc. That said you can get a DL burner for around 30 dollars. Click HERE to see one from Newegg.com.
I am not sure what you mean by 'burns, flip, burn dvds.' but if you make another comment I will respond.
Take Care,

IS THE HP TX2000 LAPTOP CAPABLE OF WRITING ON DL DVD

It's a general-purpose computer, so it is. If you meant the internal burner in particular rather than that laptop using external dual-layer burners, hit eject and read the model number off the bottom of the DVD tray. Google the part number and 'dual-layer' together to find out whether it's supposed to burn dual-layer discs and also find out -with what speeds- people have achieved empirical success burning discs.

Feel joy as search engines and libraries become productivity-enhancers for you; there is little risk of sterility as from ingestion of hormones or allergic reaction as from blood doping. I think.

Cannot copy files to DVD disks

First of all you should have the recording tab ON. Have you tried burning using Nero instead of dragging and dropping? This may solve the problem.

However, if you prefer to drag and drop, try setting the write speed to a slower setting, even if the dvd burner has faster write capabilities.

1. I do not think it is a hardware issue.

2. You can try replacing the IDE cable, but if you can read the contents of the disk it does not suggest a communication issue between the drive and mobo.

3. I do not think that the burning software is to blame, when you drag and drop you are actually using a windows based burning software that is installed with the operating system.

4. set up your files to burn through nero, let the software do the work.

I had the same issue with my dvd burner, although slightly different error messages, solved it by using nero instead.
